From School Leadership

September 21, 2023

Dear PSI Community:

It was great to see so many families come together on Tuesday night for Welcome Night! This was the first time that we've had this event in person since 2019, and it was great to have community members come together to connect and learn more about the year. Our specialist teachers enjoyed connecting with families in the media center, also. See here for more information about them.

Please provide us feedback here to help us as we plan for future events.

As a reminder, we do not have classes on Monday, Yom Kippur. We look forward to seeing your children on Tuesday. Our Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a PSI Family Festival and PTO Kickoff on Tuesday, September 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Park. See below for more information. Take care, have a great week, and keep reading!

Lifetouch Picture Orders

Picture Day went well yesterday! Picture proofs will be sent home with your student in about three weeks. On each proof envelope, there will be an id/access code that you can use to order photos online. You can purchase digital photos and/or hard copies of the photos. Photos packages (hard copies) will be delivered directly to your home.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!

Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves. This Report to Parents offers school families strategies they can use to help their kids build a habit of good attendance.

K-5 A-E Specialist Calendar

In our SLP elementary schools, our specialist classes rotate on an A, B, C, D, E day schedule. We do this so that students do not consistently miss classes on a particular calendar week day. Please see the September rotation schedule.

General illness and COVID-19 procedures

St. Louis Park Public Schools will continue to follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regarding COVID-19 during the 2023-24 school year. COVID testing is recommended for individuals with COVID symptoms. Tests are currently available at school. Students/staff testing positive for COVID-19 should stay home a full 5 days and return to school on day 6 if their symptoms have improved & they have been fever free for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication. They should wear a mask through day 10. For more information on illness prevention and COVID-19 procedures visit: https://www.slpschools.org/about/departments/health-services

Lunchroom Volunteer Opportunities are Back!

We would love to have you come help our students in the cafeteria this year.  Tasks will include things such as, helping to open tricky food packages, handing out extra napkins or utensils, and wiping down tables. Two volunteers are requested for each time slot; there are two time slots per day, 11-noon and noon-1pm.  Feel free to sign up for one or both hours. Volunteers need to be parents or legal guardians. This is a fun way to get into the school and help out!

2nd Annual PTO Kickoff and Family Festival

We hope to see you at the 2nd PSI Family Picnic on September 26th from 5-7pm at Oak Hill Park. The PTO does not have regularly scheduled meetings. We typically meet once at the beginning of the year to kick things off. Then teams form to work on specific projects (for example: conference meals, read-a-thon fundraiser, spiritwear, book fair, silent auction fundraiser, spring carnival). So come for some fun, meet the new Amity Interns, and stop by the volunteer table to learn more about how you can get involved!

Welcome Amity Interns!

We have eight Amity Interns at PSI for the 2023-2024 school year adding valuable assistance in classrooms, sharing their culture and Spanish language skills with our students. As you see them in the hallways or around St. Louis Park, please welcome them to PSI and our community. You will have the opportunity to learn more about each amity intern on the PTO website in the coming weeks. Or better yet, come meet them at the PTO picnic on Sept 26th!

Bringing Spanish speaking interns to PSI would not be possible without families willing to open up their homes. A huge thank you to all our Fall Host Families and Cousin Families. Fall host families include the Stein, Strauss, Kuykendall, Williams-Boll, Scott, Doescher, Warren and Gurchak families. The amity interns will live with them until mid-January when they switch to new Spring host families.

We are in need of 8 host families for Spring 2023, which runs mid-January through mid-June. Please email psiamity@gmail.com if you are interested, have questions or would like to connect with one of our PSI Coordinators.
