November 17, 2022
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
I hope this finds you healthy and well. The snow has made for an exciting few days for our students! Being that we go outside for recess most days, please make sure your child has warm winter gear. Our "lost and found" area is currently very full; please make sure that all clothes are labeled. As we are all starting to spend more time indoors, please see important health information below from our Health Office.
Today is National Parent Involvement Day. Thanks to each of you for choosing our school and for all you do as your children’s first teachers. It is a privilege to partner with you on behalf of your children and on behalf of all of our children.
As a reminder, we will not have classes next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Nov. 23, 24, & 25) due to Fall Break. Thank you for being members of our community, and thank you for sharing your children with us. I hope that you and your family enjoy many treasured moments together next week. We look forward to seeing students return on Monday, November 28.
Sincerely,
Corey

Education Support Professionals Day
ESPs hold a special place in the hearts of everyone in our school communities. If you ask any student about their day, they will likely have a story to share about the bus driver who gets them to and from school safely, the secretary who greets them every morning with a smile, the cafeteria worker who feeds them healthy meals at lunch, or the paraeducator who provides them with the space to learn and grow every day. These ESPs, and more, work alongside other caring adults to help our students get what they need to succeed.

From the Health Office...
High Rates of Illness at School:
Stay Home When Sick and Slow the Spread of Illness
We are seeing unusually high rates of illness in multiple SLP schools, in particular, influenza (flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These viruses can be easily spread through close contact when people cough, sneeze, and talk. PLEASE list your child's symptoms when calling the 24 hour attendance line (952-928-6570).
Please help partner with us in an effort to prevent the spread of illness by following our illness guidelines:
Following are situations when your child should stay home:
-
Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student should stay home for 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
- Vomiting or diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
- Any uncontrolled cough.
- Rashes with unknown causes. Check with your family physician/clinic before your student returns to school.
- If feeling ill/unwell and the student is unable to fully participate in school activities.
If your child displays symptoms of influenza or RSV, you can reach out to your child’s health care provider to see if testing for these illnesses is recommended. For information about influenza and RSV please refer to the Parent Fact Sheets from Hennepin County Public Health:
-
Influenza information can be found HERE
-
RSV Information can be found HERE
Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of illness.

SLP Public Schools to Send COVID Test Kits Home with Students & Staff!
St. Louis Park Public Schools will send COVID test kits home with ALL students and staff ahead of Thanksgiving break
Rest, relaxation, and time to connect with family and friends is coming soon to St. Louis Park Public Schools students, families, and staff with No School K-12 from November 23-25. As we enter the winter season, we are seeing the combination of COVID, influenza, the common cold, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) significantly impact the health of students and staff.
District leaders are looking ahead with your health in mind… We are taking steps to increase our cleaning protocol and are strongly recommending that students and staff resume masking. We will also be distributing COVID tests districtwide.
To keep our schools and buildings safe after the break, we strongly encourage all students and staff to test for COVID before returning to school on November 28 or if symptoms appear anytime during the week of the 28th, regardless of vaccination status.
We are excited to announce that St. Louis Park Public Schools is in a position to assist families and staff with this request. Next week, students and staff members will be sent home with two COVID tests.
Please contact Flower Krutina, krutina.flower@slpschools.org, with any questions.

Give to the Max Day 2022 is TODAY!
The PSI PTO is participating in the 2022 Give to the Max Day fundraising campaign, TODAY, Thursday, Nov. 17. Give to the Max is a statewide giving event that raises millions each year for Minnesota nonprofits, and offers organizations like ours the chance to win additional grants from a prize pool of more than $100,000.
We recognize that many families gave to the Leer-a-tón recently, for which we are so appreciative. If you missed donating to Leer-a-tón or find your family in a position to give again you could help us win additional grant money. Each donation made through GiveMN.org, until the end of day on the 17th, no matter the size, gives the PTO an opportunity to win grants from the prize pool, including a chance to win the $10,000 grand prize grant.
This is our first year actively participating in Give to the Max and we have set an ambitious goal of 50 donations made leading up to and on Give to the Max Day, Nov. 17. You can give to PSI PTO online by visiting the PSI PTO GiveMN page.
