Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

We are having a great second week of school! A highlight of my day is always watching students enter our building in the morning. I see kindness, hope, excitement, and sometimes tears. Collectively, we work together to help students continue to grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

We are excited to connect with families at next Tuesday's virtual "Welcome Night." The purpose of "Welcome Night" is to help foster a continued conversation between teachers and families about students regarding connections, relationships, expectations, routines, and community. Our classroom teachers will offer a virtual session at 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Our specialist teachers will host virtual sessions at 6:30, 6:45, 7:00, and 7:15 p.m. We will send the Zoom links via a special edition La Prensa early next week. Please join us!

Thank you for being members of our community, and thank you for entrusting us with your amazing children.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Corey

Healthy Eating

Healthy eating is so important for children. At Park Spanish Immersion Elementary, we work hard to ensure students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day to support their developing brains and bodies. Research shows that children who eat regular, nutritious meals are more likely to attend school and be engaged in learning.

We are excited to partner with Every Meal to offer a free weekend meal program to all our students. Every Meal is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships. They strive to make a difference in children’s lives by focusing on food gaps like weekends, school breaks, and summer when they can’t receive food in school.

  • Free for all families
  • No qualifications required
  • Students enrolled in the program will receive a 4-5 pound bag of nutritious, nonperishable food each week
  • Every Meal does not collect information from families; privacy is protected
  • Families may choose to participate in the program anytime throughout the school year
  • Families may choose from a variety of different weekend food bag options
  • Please contact Jennifer Gregor, School Social Worker (gregor.jennifer@slpschools.org) to participate or for more information

Queridos Padres/Guardianes,

Hispanic Heritage Month

September 15-October 15 is National Hispanic Heritage Month! Please join us in honoring the inspiring cultures, histories, and contributions of our Hispanic community. We are privileged to work with so many amazing students, families, and staff and community members. Please click here to learn more information about Hispanic Heritage Month.

Attendance

We are excited to welcome our students back to school! It is important to build consistent routines for our students and for them to be inside their classrooms by 7:45 daily. Families, if your child will be absent, please remember to call the 24-hour attendance line (952-928-6570) ANY time your child will be late or absent from school.

Kiss and Ride morning drop off time is between 7:28 and 7:42 a.m. Students should be inside their classrooms by 7:45 am. The school day ends at 2:15 pm.  Not calling in your child’s absence will result in an automated attendance call, AND will result in an unexcused tardy or absence per the school procedures. Click here for the St. Louis Park Attendance Policy.

Kiss & Ride Procedures

The Kiss & Ride (student drop off and pick-up) procedures are the same as last year.

  • Families were asked to keep their Kiss & Ride car tag to use again this year.
  • Families needing a replacement car tag should contact Kathy in the office at 952-928-6555.
  • New families to our school will receive their tags from their classroom teacher.
  • For everyone's safety, children should only get out or in the passenger side of the car and not walk around the car.
  • If you need to buckle your child, please do not do it in the pick-up line. After your child is in the car you can pull forward to the front of the line, then you can get out of your car to assist buckling. This will help keep the line moving behind you.
  • If you need to make a transportation change after your child has left for school, please call the office. Often teachers are unable to listen to voicemails or check emails until after dismissal.

Grade 5 Families - Band

Hello 5th Grade Families,

All 5th grade students have had the opportunity this week to try out different band instrument mouthpieces to help select which instrument they will play in Band this year. If your student was absent or missed trying out instrument mouthpieces, contact Ms. Bertram and she will make sure to check in with your student in the next week or so.

Additionally, this week students are going to have materials sent home with what instrument they will play in Band, how to register for Band and information about renting instruments and more. If you do not know which instrument your student is supposed to play, please contact Ms. Bertram and she will share it with you. Please come to Band Information Night to learn all about how to join Band, how to rent instruments, expectations, and get any questions answered.

PTO Family Picnic

We hope to see you at the PSI Family Picnic on Oct 3rd from 5:00-7:00 pm at Oak Hill Park

The PTO does not have regularly scheduled meetings. We typically meet once at the beginning of the year to kick things off. Then teams form to work on specific projects (for example: conference meals, read-a-thon fundraiser, spiritwear, book fair, silent auction fundraiser, spring carnival). So come for some fun, and stop by the volunteer table to learn more about how you can get involved!
