Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
Our third, fourth and fifth graders took the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA's) in mathematics yesterday and today. The results will be shared with families in the fall. These and many other formative and summative assessments help inform us of our students' academic growth and ways to support each of them.
You are invited to a virtual chat with the principals from 3:45-4:45 next Monday, April 28. Feel free to drop in at any time at this link! We will share information regarding next year's elementary schedule changes at 4:00, and the rest of the time will be an opportunity to connect and learn with and from each other.
On Monday, we will also see our fourth graders' brilliance and hard work on display at the Middle School for Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song. See below for more information.

Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song: April 28
The fourth grade Elders’ Wisdom, Children’s Song community celebration is soon! The fourth graders have been working with Sr. Davis and Sra. Wieber to put the finishing touches on their songs. They are excited to share their learning with the PSI community.
Sra. Ruff's class will be honoring Sr. Ram Etwarroo, an immigrant from Guyana who works at PSI. Sra. Giraldo's class will be honoring Sr. Dan Jensen, a Vietnam veteran from our community. Srta. Casey's class will be honoring Sra. Gayle Knutson, a local filmmaker who happens to be Srta. Casey’s mom!
Families are invited to join us as the fourth graders honor these elders in a
community celebration on Monday, April 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the SLP Middle School.
Fourth grade students should arrive at the Middle School at 6:00 p.m. for a short practice before the performance.
Volunteers needed! We need a few volunteers to help with the mini rehearsal when students arrive at 6:00 and also with the small reception after the celebration. Contact Sra. Wieber at wieber.kimberly@slpschools.org to volunteer.

STEP Food Drive Update
Thank you to everyone who donated to the STEP food drive! It was a great success! We collected 56 boxes of cereal (see movie for the domino chain) and 107 cans of food! We also received many other helpful items like macaroni and cheese, taco shells, rice, beans, cooking oil and peanut butter. STEP was very grateful for the donations which will benefit many people in our community.

Support the PSI Community Garden – Spring Plant Sale!
Our young gardeners have been hard at work this spring, growing a variety of seedlings indoors, and now it’s time to share them with you! Join us for our First Annual PSI PTO Community Garden Plant Sale on Friday, May 9, from 2:15-4:00 PM after school.
We’ll have a beautiful selection of plants, including annual and perennial flowers, vegetables, and herbs—perfect for your garden or patio!
This donation-based fundraiser in partnership with our PTO will help sustain the PSI Community Garden for years to come. Stop by to pick up some plants while supporting a greener future for our school!

In this issue, we want to highlight a small project the students in Srta. Bernal's first grade class worked on! This project combined Geometry and Social Studies, and students were able to participate in a lesson led by our Amity Intern, Ana.
Ana is from Granada, Spain, and taught students about "La Alhambra," a palace complex near where she is from. Looking at photos of La Alhambra, students identified many concepts such as polygons, symmetry, attributes, fractions, tiles, mosaics and more! Thank you Ana for sharing about the culture of Granada!

Superintendent Dr. Carlondrea Hines Asks Our Students the Big Questions… with the Tiniest Mic
If you haven’t caught Dr. Hines’ tiny mic interviews yet, you’re missing out! 🎤 The series features candid moments and big insights from our students. Recently, Dr. Hines stopped by Junior Achievement, where 4th graders from Peter Hobart and SLP High School students ran a full-on mock city. Then on National Kindergarten Day, she visited Aquila Elementary to chat with our youngest learners.
Let’s just say—when the tiny mic’s out, the good times roll!
