From School Leadership

May 16, 2024

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

It's been a fun week at our school as we prepare for our PTO-sponsored Carnaval on Saturday! It's always an exciting community event, and we hope that you are able to join us. See below for more information. Please note that we will have a parade and dancing on the bus loop in back starting at 1:30; students are learning dances in physical education this week, also, thanks to our Amity interns! We encourage you to plan ahead and be kind to our neighbors. We will have limited parking on site, and we are grateful that Westwood Lutheran Church is allowing us to use their parking lot.

Our first graders are going to Westwood Nature Center today, and our second graders are headed to Gibbs Farm tomorrow. We are grateful for these educational opportunities!

This evening, our band and orchestra students will share their brilliance during a concert starting at 7:00 p.m. in our gymnasium. Students should arrive at 6:00, following the instructions of our Sr. Binger and Sra. Brummel-Culver.

Have a great week, keep reading, and see you soon!

Cartonera Project

Would you like to see how we used hundreds of cereal boxes? It’s almost time for the unveiling of our Cartoneras. On May 31, students will be sharing self-published books that they wrote and illustrated. These Cartonera books are incredible! They will be on display and available for reading May 31, 8:30-9:30 and 10:30-11:30 on the west lawn. Your child is invited to bring a blanket or towel to sit on as they take in the stories. Please join us for this wonderful literacy event!

Click here to see the schedule for when your student(s) class will be sharing their Cartoneras.

PHOTOS WANTED: Grade 5 Celebration of Learning

A message for parents from the 5th grade Celebration of Learning Team:

Happy Spring! We are eager to help honor our fifth graders at the end of this milestone year, and we need your help for the slideshow. We’re looking for photos of your kids and their classmates over the past 6 years at PSI. Please scan your camera rolls for class parties, games, plays, first/last days, and more during their PSI careers from 2018-2024. Every child will be represented, but we need your assistance to make this a sweet memory for them!

Please drop photos into the google drive below by Monday May 27th.

Spring Fundraising Drive

Check backpacks for the PSI PTO’s Spring Fundraiser Flyer. If you are able to contribute, every amount helps. We hope to welcome 8 Amity Interns from Spanish-speaking countries from around the world to the PSI community for the 2024-25 school year. Amity interns deepen the language and culture immersion for our children every day by collaborating with our classroom teachers. The administrative fees and work stipends are ~ $6,500 per intern. The Amity Intern Program is fully funded by the PSI PTO.

Please donate online at: https://bit.ly/3vnR3q6 OR by check (payable to PSI PTO) using the envelope provided with the flyer sent home.

Looking for a Couple 4th Grade Guardians

Fourth grade families: We are looking for two families to support the live streaming of the Fifth Grade Celebration. All the equipment will be ready for you, but we need adults to monitor during the event. If you're willing, please contact Erin Rath at ehealy05@gmail.com.

Amity Program Needs YOU!

Each year PSI welcomes eight Amity Interns from Spanish speaking countries who assist our teachers in the K-5 classrooms. Amity interns live with PSI host families one semester allowing both an opportunity for greater language learning and cultural exchange. Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for a semester! We need fall host families for our wonderful incoming interns next year. This is a unique and wonderful experience that can benefit your entire family. Plus, it's a great way to give back to the students, staff and entire community. Want more info? Please check out the FAQs or email us at psiamity@gmail.com.

Ready to sign up? Email us at psiamity@gmail.com or fill out this application and we’ll reach out to you!
