November 2, 2023
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
We hope that you have had a good week! I hope to see many of you "under the lights" at tonight's PTO-sponsored Family Fun and Fitness Night at the St. Louis Park High School Football Stadium from 6:00-7:00. It's always a great time!
As a reminder, we do not have school tomorrow, Friday, November 3 due to teacher professional development. We will be focused on literacy as a school, and our specialist teachers will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from other schools.
On Saturday from 10:00 a.m until 12:00 p.m., St Louis Park Public Schools will host a "Kindergarten Welcome" at St. Louis Park Middle School. Click here for more information, and encourage potential families to join us!
Have a great week, keep reading, and see you soon!

Drama Club Rehearsals Begin Next Week!

The Drama Club is open to students in grades 3-5, and includes weekly rehearsals on Mondays or Thursdays. There will be three February performances. Students will experience the magic of theater while working together to learn lines, create costumes and props, and perform for friends and family.
Students are expected to consistently attend rehearsals. Please look over the schedule on the Drama Club website (http://psidramaclub.weebly.com/index.html) to be sure that your child can attend all rehearsals and performances before committing to this activity.
Students in GOTR, YEP, or other Community Education classes can join Drama Club, even if they need to miss the first week due to overlapping classes. For other conflicts related to classes or clubs, please contact Sra. Wieber (wieber.kimberly@slpschools.org).
Follow this link to register. Drama Club registration closes on Friday, November 10.

November is Native American Heritage Month
St. Louis Park Public Schools exist on the land of the Dakota and Ojibwe peoples. We acknowledge the Dakota and Ojibwe community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. We acknowledge that our school district was founded upon exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous Peoples, including those on whose land our school district is located. We commit to dismantling the ongoing legacies of colonial power and the district’s desire to support the ongoing work of local Indigenous communities to thrive in our schools. Especially this month, we celebrate Native American Heritage Month and honor the Indigenous students and families we serve in St. Louis Park Public Schools.

St. Louis Park High School Theatre Presents
Emma: A Pop Musical Nov. 10-12 and 17-19
Eric Price’s musical adaptation sets Jane Austen’s classic novel in a modern high school. Emma, a meddling but well-intentioned matchmaker, vows to find the perfect pairing for her cluelessly lovelorn friend, Harriet. When Emma’s matches misfire, she learns the value of listening to one’s heart, including her own. Featuring the female-forward music of Whitney Houston, Katy Perry, Cyndi Lauper, Shania Twain, Sara Bareilles, and many more, Emma: A Pop Musical will have audiences humming along.
Due to construction at the High School, all performances will be held at the St. Louis Park Middle School Performing Arts Center, located at 2025 Texas Ave S. Performances are Nov. 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 12 and 19 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens, and free with student ID for all SLPHS students.

Spring Amity Host Families Needed
Our children benefit each day from the assistance of eight Amity interns from Spanish speaking countries in our PSI classrooms! Each semester, our school depends on 8 families willing and able to host these dedicated interns. We are in need of a few more PSI host families for spring semester (mid-January to mid-June). We are hoping to get these families signed up in the next few weeks and we thank every family for considering how they can support this program, whether it is fundraising during leer-a-tón or hosting an intern this spring.
Not only is hosting an Amity a huge service to the PSI community, but it is a really wonderful and unique experience that can benefit your whole family. One of the most exciting things we hear is the joy of hearing your child speaking Spanish in their day to day lives with the Amity in your home.
Want more info? Please check out the FAQs or email us at psiamity@gmail.com.

Amity Introductions - Meet Monica
I am Monica and I am 23 years old and I am Spanish. I live in a beautiful city called Barcelona. This last year I finished my studies as a teacher at the University of Barcelona and I have always worked surrounded by children.
My family is made up of my mother Mercedes, my father Alberto and my older sister Patricia. The four of us have always been very close and we love spending time together. We find ourselves laughing at everything!
I am a very friendly person and I love spending time with my friends. I love going to the cinema, listening to music and going to concerts. I really like traveling and getting to know different cultures. I also like to walk, play sports, excursions, etc….
Since I was little I have liked the artistic world. I love going to the theater and seeing musicals. Since I was little I have practiced synchronized swimming and
I like everything that has to do with water. I like sports and trying everything, which is why I specialized in physical education at my university.
I am very excited to be able to live this experience in this school. I believe that I can provide many things and continue to grow as a teacher.
