January 5, 2023

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

Happy New Year! How about that snow?! I hope that families were able to enjoy the winter break, and I hope that you were able to make some great memories.

It's been great to have our students and staff back in the building, and we are taking time to re-establish our learning communities. As we are nearly at the half-way mark of the year, we will also be revisiting students' hopes and dreams.

Take care, be safe, and thank you for partnering with us.

Sincerely,

Corey

STEP Donation Project Update

Thank you to everyone who donated food to STEP. Because of you, our  school  has collected 474 pounds of food. That is 1 ⅓ of a panda bear. This will help a bunch of families in need. The 5th grade service group appreciates your generosity and time on this project. We hope to have something like this again this year. Thank you so much. And have good holidays and a happy new year.

We See Color! Grades K-2 w/ caregivers

This six-week course is designed for children in grades K-2 with their caregivers. Rather than instill false notions of "colorblindness" that ignore parts of our identity, this course will teach kids and caregivers how to engage in meaningful conversations that celebrate and honor our unique differences. Raise the racial consciousness of your child rearing and have fun in the process!

Cost per family: $99 (includes dinner at each class for all attending members

Day/Time: Tuesdays, January 24-February 28, 5:30-7:00 pm

Caregivers will be able to begin to unpack how everyday child-rearing choices can be obstacles to equity.

FREE ECFE Class!

We are offering a free, outreach Latino ECFE class at the Central Early Learning Center. We've been working with Carmen Rudin and Martha Thompson to get the word out to families. We thought it would be a good idea to connect with the elementary schools to share this information as well. Do you have any students with younger siblings (infants, toddlers, preschoolers) who might be interested in this class?

Class Information

Date: Tuesdays (through May 30)

Time: 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Location: Central Early Learning Center - 6300 Walker Street

Format: This is a free multi-age parent/child class for children ages 0-5 facilitated by two parent educators and a Spanish speaking paraprofessional. Children engage in large motor play in the rec area and then have fun exploring new toys and art projects in our infant and toddler classroom. If we can get enough families, we are hoping to run the separating component of the class which allows for parent/child play for the first 30 minutes and then 30 minutes of parents only session with the parent educator and Spanish speaking para. This class is free!

PSI PTO Science and Imagination Fair

The 2023 PSI Science and Imagination Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 pm in the PSI gym. The goal of the Science and Imagination Fair is to encourage all families to participate and nurture our children's love of science and imagination! Keep in mind that projects do not have to be a science project either. Past projects have included catapults, test plants and sculptures, to name a few. Each child will have half a table to display their project. The gym will be open as early as 4:00 pm the day of the fair for participants to begin setting up. For those wishing to register their child, please use the link located at:

New Year, New Website!

PTO has an updated website!  The address is the same, but everything else is new and improved.  This website can serve as a one-stop shop to keep you up-to-date on school happenings.
