March 9, 2023
Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:
I hope that you have had a great week! Yesterday was International Women's Day, and I am grateful for our amazing female staff, and for the many women in our community who do amazing things every day to help support and encourage our students' academic, emotional, and social growth. I would also like to recognize our incredible school social worker, Jennifer Gregor, during School Social Work week for all she does to help our students and families. GRACIAS.
Yesterday, our fifth graders ventured to the MN Orchestra Hall, and today our kindergartners are learning at Westwood Nature Center. We are grateful for both of these opportunities to help our students grow.
Have a great week, keep reading, and thank you for sharing your amazing children with us.
Sincerely,
Corey

From Grade 5 Student Service Leaders -
Do you have SLP or PSI merch you don't need?
We are collecting SLP or PSI merch that doesn't fit or you just don't wear. We suggest you check for the following things, holes and printed names/last names. Please don't bring head wear such as hats and headbands. We are collecting shirts/sweatshirts, no pants or things like that. Don't worry if there is a name on the tag we will take care of that. If you have a variety of sizes of shirts that you don’t wear, that's great. If you don't want to bring anything that's ok. On the day of the store opening please make sure that your kid knows if they already have merchandise because we may not have enough for everyone.
Thank you,
From the service 5th grade student leaders :)

From Talent Development:
Fourth graders to honor community members on May 2
The fourth graders are busy preparing for our Elders’ Wisdom Children’s Song community celebration. This project incorporates community, history, education, and celebration through storytelling, song, and spoken word. In February, each fourth-grade class interviewed an elder from the community and is now writing a song inspired by the elder’s life story.
Families are invited to join us as the fourth graders honor these elders in a community celebration on Tuesday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the SLP Middle School.
Contact Sra. Wieber with questions.

Health Services Update
The peak of cold and flu season is upon us and we’ve noticed an increase in illnesses commonly seen in the school setting including colds, COVID, strep throat and stomach flu. To help prevent the spread of these illnesses, wash hands frequently, do not touch eyes, nose or mouth, and cover mouth and nose with elbow when sneezing or coughing. Masking is optional but recommended especially if your child is experiencing mild symptoms that do not exclude them from school. Here is the parent information sheet for Strep Throat. Also, please feel free to reach out for a COVID test if you would like one sent home with your child.

Summer Learning and Play provides enrichment all summer long
Summer vacation is a great time to be outside and try new things. Students that spend time engaged during the summer months reduce the chances of falling behind in the next school year. For families that are looking for great summer activities, consider registering for Summer Learning and Summer Play provided by St. Louis Park Public Schools Community Education.
Registration for Summer Learning and Summer Play will open in early March. These enriching opportunities are provided to families in a variety of self-select options. Families can register students for half-day programs that fit their interests, and the opportunities provide great ways for students to learn more about their interests and grow positive habits. This year some of the programs include sports, robotics, art and Pokemon.
These summer programs are especially great because of the importance of relationships. Darrell Young, youth enrichment program manager, has been in the district for 8 years. He enjoys working with students and learning more about their interests. Using what he learns from his students, he develops partnerships with community members and teachers who make the summer programs incredible. This year some of the partners include Skyhawks, Kidcreate and T. Wills Sports.
Students can register for two programs, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They can stay the day and choose to bring or buy lunch provided by Nutrition Services. This allows students to maximize their summer while having great amounts of fun. Programs are fee-based, but Darrell Young encourages families to contact Youth Enrichment for fee reductions. “We will work with anyone. We want this to be a partnership between the families, so please call us,” said Young. Click HERE for more information!

Support Our Amity Intern Program
as a Cousin Family!
Not able to host an intern, but interested in supporting the Amity program in another way? Become a cousin family. Each cousin family is assigned to one intern for the school year. Cousin families invite the intern along on family outings such as apple-picking, ice skating, or simply dinner at home. You are an extension of the host family and support both the intern and their host families throughout the intern’s stay. This brings an important sense of consistency and community to the intern. The more involved the cousin family is with the intern, the greater the opportunity is for language learning, cultural exchange, and lasting relationships for all!
Click HERE to read more about the cousin family role, or fill out your Cousin Family Application today! If you would like to speak to a current or former cousin family to learn more, email psiamity@gmail.com.
PTO is still looking for families willing to host a 2023/24 intern for either Fall or Spring semester next year. Please consider this amazing opportunity and apply HERE today!
