Farm School NYC Carpentry students measuring and preparing to cut wood at the Good Life Garden
Program Updates
As spring transitions into summer, our students are increasingly gathering on the land to learn together. First year students recently completed their Carpentry course with co-facilitators, Luz Cruz and Alex Gomez. Meeting on Saturdays at the Good Life Garden in Bushwick, Brooklyn, students worked together to build an arbor trellis for squash and other crops. Sharing gratitude to Kofi Thomas and all of the Good Life garden members for welcoming us into the space, and hope the trellis supports the garden and its produce for years to come.

Get Ready to Confirm Your Board Members!
Community - Thank you for nominating a dynamite slate of potential Board Members. So far, 11 of the 31 nominees have chosen to move forward to the next step -- creating brief videos in response to this prompt: How do you feel you would support Farm School NYC's mission, vision, and values? Later this month, we will invite students, alumni and faculty to view these videos, and then confirm their preferred representatives. Please see our Board Evolution Process for more information.
High Tunnel Program Updates
Claudia continues to expand our work on high tunnels and urban stewardship. Here are a few updates:

Your opinions were so valuable! Thank you for responding to our NYC High Tunnel Interest Survey. This is informing our new course which we will launch later this year.

We're helping build a High Tunnel. Students, alums and faculty are joining a greenhouse build with Black Yard Farm Collective at Corbin Hill Farm next weekend. If you are an alum or current second-year student and want to join us, email claudia@farmschoolnyc.org ASAP.

Donate to East New York Farms' IOBY campaign to help them build a new high tunnel and composting site on the UCC Youth Farm.

"Until we are all free, we are none of us free." ~ Emma Lazarus.
This sentiment is especially resonant on Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of the day the last group of enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their legal emancipation–two years after the Emancipation Proclamation made it official in 1863. Juneteenth became an official New York state holiday last year, and we hope you are able to join a celebration or create one of your own.
