WASHINGTON, DC, March 17, 2014 -
The Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) is proud to announce its sponsorship of a math-based learning tool for use during student after-school programs. The game style software is intended to provide students with an entertaining way to refresh their core algebra and math skills as they prepare for college. Students from Cardozo Senior High School will soon find themselves engaged with solving "math problems" to advance their character through the journey of "Pi and the Lost Function." The aim is to combine the interests of students and help them prepare for college placement exams through current math gaming software.
"We are excited about offering an innovative way to assess and improve students' math skills," said LAYC's Stephanie Kramer, program manager. "Preparing students for success prior to taking math placement exams is critical."
Advanced Training and Learning Technology, LLC's founder Ed Harvey, Jr., created the math gaming technology based on the advanced simulation platform his company developed for the Department of Defense, repositioning it for next generation teaching tools in education environments. "Our software is used to rapidly and efficiently refresh student skills prior to an important exam, such as a PSAT/SAT/ACT/AP standardized exam, or a college placement exam."
"This addition to our after-school program should be a fun and relevant way for our students to prepare for success in college-level math courses," added Dr. Tanya Roane, Principal of Cardozo Senior High School.
In addition to offering the math refresh program at Cardozo, LAYC also plans to provide the same math refresh software for an after-school program at Roosevelt Senior High School in Washington, D.C.
