Let's build a better normal

Executive Director Efrat Feferman provides an update on how your support of United Way of Monroe County continues to lift up our community in this time of need.

Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about getting back to normal, rebuilding, and what that will look and feel like. As we’ve thought about rebuilding, we dream of creating a new normal, a better normal. United Way has long championed every person’s right to be treated with dignity and respect and to live a life of hope and opportunity. And the events over the past several weeks further reinforce that we cannot go back to the old normal, since that wasn't working for everyone. We have a long road ahead to establish justice for all.

And yet, the work of relief and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic continues here at home, as it must. Thousands of lives in Monroe, Owen, and Greene counties have been disrupted. For those who were facing challenges before the pandemic, those challenges have multiplied many times over; and so for these families, the struggle to meet basic daily needs is even more difficult.

As a member of the Indiana United Ways, we appreciate their statement below and wholeheartedly join in a call to action to stand shoulder to shoulder fighting for equity and equal access to justice..
