Loyola Letterhead

Hello,
Welcome to the first day of summer!

Last evening we concluded our Board of Trustee meetings for the fiscal year 2019-2020. That meeting also concluded Michelle Zehnder Fischer's time on our board. Thank you Michelle! You have been an integral part of our strategic planning since your time on the board and we have appreciated your time, passion and knowledge. Fortunately, Michelle will still serve on our Academics and Activities Committee as we look ahead. The BoT approved Chris Roe to fill the spot on the board. Welcome Chris and we look forward to your commitment to the school. Chris has been a long-term member of the finance committee and will only help strengthen that important component of our school. Tim Murray has agreed to re-up for a second term on the board. Thank you Tim!

Staffing Announcements:
Kevin Elton, Assistant Principal and AP Stats teacher has accepted a position at Sibley East High School. Kevin has been on the leadership team and a part of Loyola for two years. We wish him the absolute best at Sibley East. He has many years left in his educational career and will positively impact many students and staff along his path.

I plan to fill the administrative spot with two lead positions, one for K-6 and one for 7-12. We plan to post the openings by July 1 and interview and hire by the end of July. Over the course of my three years here there has been a continued expressed need for our staff, students, and parents to have a closer direct lead to work with at respective levels. There's no doubt it often gets difficult when you scan the scope of K-12.

I'm happy to announce we've also hired a preschool lead and that we were able to promote from within. Tami Zwaschka will be the Preschool Director for our PS program. Tami will assume this role part time and will still maintain part time teaching duties. We welcome Tami into this role and know she has great passion and an understanding of what it takes to have a high quality PS program. This will give our PS parents a person to go to and help bridge our PS program with the elementary school.

Brandy Gullickson has been hired as our 7-12 Choral Director. Welcome Brandy and we are so excited to have you start working with our students here at Loyola. See her full bio below.

Trisha Sizer will be teaching 4th grade with Barb Wendlandt next year. Since we only have one section of 5th graders we needed to make a move. Michelle Ellingworth will now be teaching math for 5th and 6th grade. We are still looking at what the other responsibilities will look like between Michelle, Linda Ruehle, and Amanda Stahl. While there is some shuffling there, the plan is to continue to have 4th-6th grade work very closely together.

Kerstyn Carraferelli has been hired as development associate. Kerstyn will work in the development office with Sam Smith and Matt Fink. Kerstyn has already started and can be found working in the ed center side of the building by Sam and Matt's offices. See her bio below.

I hope to you continue to have a relaxing and happy summer! Watch for additional news/happenings in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Adam Bemmels
School Leader/Preschool-12 Principal

CHOIR: Please welcome Mrs. Brandy Gullickson
Brandy Klingel Gullickson, a native of Mankato, is excited to begin her 23rd year of teaching.  She received her B.S. in Vocal/Classroom Music Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 1997 and her M.A. in Music Education Choral Concentration from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul in 2011.  Prior to working at Loyola, Brandy taught for Mankato District 77 (Long-term substitute at West HS), Rockford, Eden Prairie, Waseca, JWP, and at Loyola years ago as a long term sub.  Brandy is married to Ross Gullickson and has two sons, Marshall and Brody.  In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities with her family and is a soprano singer in Musicorum.  One fun fact from the Gullickson Family - since having kids, they have hosted five foreign exchange students from Europe and were able to visit them all last summer in Germany.

DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE: Please welcome Ms. Kerstyn Cafarelli
Kerstyn is originally from Rosemount, MN where she started off her experience in non-profit with taking on the Event Lead role at her local Relay for Life. Since then she has taken every opportunity possible to get more involved in the community. Volunteering has always been her passion, and she realized that she was destined to turn that into a career. Her latest job was at Greater Mankato Area United Way as the Outreach Coordinator.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling and getting to explore; she recently traveled to Greece for two weeks and loved experiencing new places and seeing what the world has to offer.   Kerstyn holds a degree in Marketing and Minor in Business Administration from  Minnesota State University, Mankato.
