Greetings,
If you grew up in America in the 1950s, 60s, and early 70s, there always seemed a Lucille Ball sit-com was on TV. Of course the best of them was I LOVE LUCY, with real-life husband Desi Arnaz, which ran from 1951-57, and is still wildly appreciated to this day via the internet. Yet Lucille was more than an actress and comedienne, she was a pioneer in television and business, at a time when both were dominated by men.
BEING THE RICARDOS is a biographical drama film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, about the relationship between "I Love Lucy" stars Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem star as Ball and Arnaz, while J. K. Simmons, Nina Arianda, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, Jake Lacy, and Clark Gregg also star. A revealing glimpse of the couple's complex romantic and professional relationship, the film takes audiences into the writers' room, onto the soundstage and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week of their groundbreaking sitcom "I Love Lucy."
"Art Exhibitions on Screen" returns with THE DANISH COLLECTOR – Delacroix To Gauguin. For many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet, Degas, and Renoir were vilified, attacked, and left penniless as a result. Then, something remarkable happened. A new breed of collectors emerged and, before long, they were battling to acquire any work by these new, radical artists that they could find. Amongst them was the visionary Danish businessman Wilhelm Hansen. It was an extraordinary moment in art history; full of drama, intrigue and subterfuge.
Continuing to Play this week...
BELFAST is a poignant story of love, laughter, and loss in one boy’s childhood, amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital. The film, written and directed by Kenneth Branagh, has been described as his "most personal film" and stars Golden Globe nominee Caitríona Balfe, Academy Award winner Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, and Ciarán Hinds.
JULIA tells the story of the legendary cookbook author and television superstar Julia Child, who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Befitting the culinary aesthetic favored by the brilliant chef it honors, JULIA uses fresh, simple ingredients to create a sumptuous documentary feast. Ron Howard served as an executive producer.

THE DANISH COLLECTOR Delacroix to Gauguin
Available at the MV Film Center and Online at Home
December 12th @ 1:00 pm
December 16th @ 4:00 pm
For many years no-one was interested in the art of the Impressionists. Artists like Monet, Degas and Renoir were vilified, attacked, and left penniless as a result.
Some collectors we may recognize and some we may not, but Hansen amassed a remarkable collection housed at his summer home, Ordrupgaard, on the outskirts of Copenhagen. Exhibition on Screen tells his fascinating story and, with exclusive access to a sell-out exhibition at London’s Royal Academy, brings the extraordinary collection to the big-screen in glorious high-definition.
From Hansen’s beautiful house and gardens at Ordrupgaard to the streets of bohemian Paris, this film takes you on a journey to discover some of the best examples of 19th-century French art ever collected.

*December 9th @ 7:30 pm (Vax Proof Required)
December 11th @ 4:00 pm
JULIA brings to life the legendary cookbook author and television superstar who changed the way Americans think about food, television, and even about women. Using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives, and cutting-edge, mouth-watering food cinematography, the film traces Julia Child’s 12 year struggle to create and publish the revolutionary Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961) which has sold more than 2.5 million copies to date, and her rapid ascent to become the country’s most unlikely television star. It’s the empowering story of a woman who found her purpose – and her fame – at 50, and took America along on the whole delicious journey.
“Julia celebrates not only the woman but also her joy and passion for the creation and consumption of delicious food.” – The Wrap
“The nonfiction film its subject deserves (no offense, Meryl Streep ), a buoyant evocation of the life of Julia Child that’s infused with uncommon intelligence and enhanced by voluptuous images of food.” – Wall Street Journal
