A Message from Pastor

"Lutheran Bishop resigns"

Sisters and Brothers,

In case you read it in the news...

A number of upsetting events in our national church body, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is reaching a climax. The Bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod, Rev Meghan Rohrer, who oversees northern California and Nevada, has just resigned, after an extended period of upheaval across that Synod and the initiation of disciplinary proceedings against Bishop Rohrer by our ELCA Presiding Bishop.

Bishop Rohrer has been accused of behavioral misconduct. Much of the alleged misconduct is around the manner of the Bishop's removal processes of a pastor from a Hispanic congregation, which resulted in a significant uproar. The Bishop's conduct was found to be hurtful, offensive, and racist. Bishop Rohrer also removed this particular pastor from the roster of approved clergy without following proper disciplinary processes. Additionally, other harmful decisions by Bishop Rohrer vis a vis congregations in that Synod have come to light.

If you are interested, further information is available here. We pray for the affected congregations, pastors, and Synod and ELCA leadership involved in these challenges.

Rev. Arden C. Strasser, Pastor

Welcome Deacon Bob!

Saint Luke's celebrated the Installation of our Deacon, Bob Wechtenhiser during this past Sunday's 11:00 Pentecost worship service.

With flames representing the Holy Spirit suspended all through the sanctuary, Bob pledged his commitment to the lay ministry leadership of Word and Service to our church.

Council President Rosemary Lebron presented Bob to Pastor Arden Strasser, Pastor Martha Jacobi and Pastor Christian von Dehsen for the Installation Service. Gifts representing Bob's ministry - a Book of Lutheran Prayers and a Pastoral Care Service book were given to Bob by Pastor Strasser on behalf of the congregation. And the three Pastors offered a very special gift - a Deacon's stole which matches the coronation tapestry used on our altar and festival vestments.

"I am blessed and deeply grateful to take my volunteer service to a new level for all who come to Saint Luke's looking for a safe, spiritual home, sharing in fellowship and the mission work of the church. With the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of The Holy Spirit, we will do great things together."
