December Revenue Collections Fall Short
On Monday January 6, 2025, The Mississippi Legislative Budget Office (LBO) released their monthly report disclosing the state’s revenue collection data. The report disclosed that December revenue collections were -$106 million or -15.9% below the legislature’s revenue estimates. The decline in corporate taxes was identified as a main contributor to the shortfall. State economist Corey Miller said that there were two (2) primary factors responsible for the stark decline in corporate taxes. One is that corporate profits were down in the third quarter of 2024, and the other factor is that changes in the state’s depreciation law had an impact.
