Who are your superheroes? We live in a time when the Marvel comics have produced numerous movies and media, including books and comics to entertain us. Some of these superheroes have unusual and unique super powers that enable them to fly and do deeds needing great strength.

But every time we turn around there are superheroes in our midst. Our Kid’s Club students have been studying heroes of the Bible all year, from Abraham to David to Rachel. None of these had any supernatural powers, but were simply humans following God’s leading to care for God’s people.

This week as we studied Meshach, Radshack and Abednego, we realized that you didn’t really need to be in the spotlight or doing something outstanding. Simple gestures of kindness, assistance and love can make you a superhero as well. We also learned that we need to stand up for what is right in the world.

A third grader shared his story: one of his friends is dealing with cancer and others were making fun of him because of his hair loss. This young man defended him against those bullies. That is a super hero!

The same is true for all of us. God has gifted us all with different talents and gifts to use as we love and care for God’s people and kingdom. We are to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.” Micah 6:8. Even the smallest task of care and concern for one another makes us super heroes.

May we all be blessed to be superheroes for the sake of God’s kingdom.

Shalom,
Pastor Linda

Missionary for A Day
Peace’s ELCA missionary is the Rev. Dr. Elisabeth Johnson. She serves as a professor at the Lutheran Institute of Theology in Cameroon, West Africa. Pastor Elisabeth has visited at Peace on a home visit, and she preached one Sunday at a Sibley Park service. In February, we introduced a new opportunity to support her ministry. A calendar will be available in the church office where you can choose a date to sponsor her in honor of, or in memory of, someone or some event. A gift of $7.00 per day you choose will help with her support. Checks may be made to “Peace – ELCA Missionary.” Please keep her in your prayers.

COUNCIL REPORT
FEBRUARY 2022

EXECUTIVING COMMITTEE REORGANIZATION: The officers of the council for 2022 are: Cliff Gesellchen President, Dave Feist Vice President. Carol Roverud Secretary and Gail Olson Treasurer.

CONFESSION: I am writing this report with the help of council members Dave Feist and Gail Olson. Jo Ann and I are spending February and March in Florida so I am not physically present at meetings. Computers are great but they are not perfect.

FINANCES: January starts another year of church expenses. We covered our bills in 2021 but we'll face new challenges in 2022 with the church programming returning to pre-covid offerings. Again, thank you very much for your support of Peace Lutheran Church with your offerings and prayers. Give what you can afford as all contributions are greatly appreciated.

ELECTRICAL PANEL: The Property Committee is studying our insurance companies problems with the current electrical panel that they say needs replacement. Information concerning this costly replacement will be forthcoming when we know more.

LAWN SERVICES: Several church members have expressed interest in doing the mowing of the church lawn this summer. We will still need the professional lawn services for fertilizing and weed control.

OFFICE HELP and CHURCH TREASURER STATUS CHANGE: Gail Olson has agreed to officially assume the office position held by Julie Muffley. Because Gail is also the Peace treasurer, and because our constitution states that a church employee cannot be a voting member of the church council, the council also voted to make the Peace treasurer position one that has a voice but no vote on the church council. This shift in status of treasurer IS allowed by our constitution and not only allows Gail's hiring, but also enables the treasurer to serve in the treasurer position longer than the 3 year council team which had previously been the limit of service.

This concludes my February Report. Thanks for taking the time to read this report.
