"We knew we had a lot to offer the city, flavor wise, with different presentations of a venue and lounge area," Muldrow said. "We wanted to curate something...fresh for everybody, in the heart of the city, not biased to any demographic where everybody can come and groove." 

A new Black-owned sports bar and lounge is opening in downtown Louisville. 

The GRÜV Sports Bar & Lounge is aiming for a grand opening of April 1st week of April at 434 W. Market St., which previously housed Dish on Market for 10 years, followed by the short-lived soul food restaurant The Bayou. 

The brick-walled space has been transformed with brightly colored murals, two dozen televisions, music memorabilia and neon lights. 

Grüv will be a multicultural, small-plate bar and lounge, co-owner Dee Muldrow said. He runs Grüv with two business partners, Kevin Wilson and Eric Winston. 

The GRÜV will serve wine, beer, cocktails and bourbon, as well as upscale small plates. The usual bar food like wings and sliders will be available, but so will a "Grüvy" version of dishes, Muldrow said. 

"You can get fries, but if you want the GRÜV fries, that'll be hand-cut, tossed with Grüv seasoning," he said. "You can get Angus beef sliders, but also the Grüv slider made with lamb, or the Grüv spud for a vegetarian option. Everything will have a dressed up, souped-up presentation outside of regular pub food." 

The GRÜV plans to be open for lunch and happy hour during the week, and for late-night events and live music Thursday to Sunday. Different evenings will feature different kinds of music, from hip hop to soul to pop and rock.

The left side of the main room features a dance space, and a DJ station is set up upstairs.  "It's a vibe everyone can enjoy," Muldrow said. "We are proud of ourselves for being a minority-owned sports bar; there are no other venues like this. We want to specify this is a venue for everyone."
