Things we're excited about....

American Climate Corps


The White House swore in the first members of the American Climate Corps last week. The mission of the American Climate Corps is to "empower a new, diverse generation to tackle two of the greatest challenges of our time: environmental injustice and climate change." Members are placed in jobs focused on public lands and waters, clean energy, urban areas, community resilience, food systems, and capacity building. By the end of the month, 9,000 American Climate Corps Members will be serving in communities across the US!

Funding Spotlight

Community Change Grants Program: EPA’s Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants program (Community Change Grants) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for approximately $2 billion dollars in Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funds in environmental and climate justice activities to benefit disadvantaged communities through projects that reduce pollution, increase community climate resilience, and build community capacity to address environmental and climate justice challenges.

This collaborative event between NOAA and the Institute for Water and Health at Georgia Southern will take place in Savannah on July 16th and 17th. This intensive and interactive course provides individuals with a thorough grounding and practical skills for incorporating adaptation strategies into planning processes. Time in class is provided to practice applying what you learn, and opportunities for local collaboration and next steps are emphasized through discussion, participant activities, and local speakers and examples.

The Portsmouth Heatmapping Project needs volunteers to assist with collecting heat data in Portsmouth, VA using car-mounted temperature sensors. Click here to volunteer.


Applications are now being accepted to attend the Third U.S.-Africa Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Symposium. The third symposium will be hosted by and in partnership with the Republic of Rwanda on February 18-20, 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda. Travel of selected participants will be covered.
