Greetings!

Wow! Wasn't last Sunday's worship special? We're still in the midst of our 53rd Anniversary: last Sunday with special emphasis on our local congregation and this Sunday with special emphasis on our denomination, which sprang from our local congregation.

Last Sunday, we heard a special message from the founder of our church, Rev. Elder Troy Perry. It's easy to see how our church and denomination grew under his leadership. What an anointing! Special thanks to our Archives Team and our Creative Worship Team for making our 53rd Anniversary so special.

This Sunday, we will hear more from our denomination's current Moderator, Rev. Elder Cecelia Eggleston, who will bring a special word for our whole denomination. Don't forget, just as we took a special love offering for our local church last Sunday, we will take a special Anniversary Offering this coming Sunday for the denomination. What an amazing fellowship! The message this Sunday is entitled, Mission Impossible. If you'd like to read ahead, check out Luke 9:12-17 (Message) and Luke 1:37 (New King James Version).

I will be on vacation the next two weeks, but have no fear...I leave you in very capable hands. This will be my first trip since the pandemic shut us all inside. Please keep me in prayer as I travel back home to see family and friends and spend a week at the ocean. I'll be back in worship on Oct. 23rd. God bless.

Update on Global General Conference 2022!

Imagine a General Conference where we, as MCC, truly live out our commitment to inclusion and justice. Where as many MCCers from around the world participate as possible, experience the strength of being in community, and share the joy of being spiritually transformed. This is the Global General Conference 2022.
A New Kind of Conference

Global General Conference 2022 is an audacious experiment in creating a truly global General Conference. Being birthed during a global pandemic, this is a moment to open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities. We are ALL experiencing this for the first time and learning together. Sometimes it may require moving out of our comfort zones, being willing to engage in new ways, and being open enough to see how this global General Conference allows others to be part of the experience, often for the very first time.

General Conference will take place in two phases:

To begin, our Global General Conference will take place in-person at locations around the world and also online from 1-3 July 2022.

The second part of our Global General Conference will be the Business Meeting and will take place online from 15-16 July 2022
1-3 July 2022
In-Person & Virtual Gatherings

We are excited to announce that there will be multiple locations for in-person gatherings around the world! Through these location and online content, we will experience the diversity of our denomination – ethnicity, gender identity, age, and ability.

You may choose to travel to any site or simply participate fully online. The Core Team and local organizers from around the world have so far identified the following locations for our Global General Conference 2022:

Houston, Texas, USA
São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil
Manila, Philippines
Latin America (Outside of Brazil): Virtual Only

Locations could be added or removed depending on the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Please note: We are working with local organizers to plan a location in Africa, Europe and possibly Australia/New Zealand. Stay tuned for more information on locations and feel free to reach out to us with ideas you have!

Features of the In-Person & Virtual Gatherings:

  • Globally curated worship experiences will be in-person at each location and streamed online.
  • Workshops will include online presentations, in-person facilitated dialog, and chat groups to contact presenters, ask questions, or offer ideas. The online portion will be available for 6 months after the conference.
  • Plenaries will be viewed in-person and online with a diverse line-up of speakers.
  • In-person meals and social activities will be included at each site.
  • Registrants will utilize an online app to connect, chat, and interact with all other participants gathering from around the world.
  • A pre-recorded worship service will be available for all of our churches to use locally on 3 July 2022 focused around the conference theme. Worship leaders can take part in the entire in-person or online experience without needing to plan or execute their own worship service.
15-16 July 2022
Virtual Business Meeting

Features of the Online Business Meeting:

  • The 2022 General Conference Business Meeting will be online only.
  • Every voting-eligible church can have their pastor and delegate(s) vote, no matter where in the world they are.
  • Voting will be done online and be open for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Formal and informal Business Forums will be online beginning in June 2022.
  • Registration for the Business Meeting will be independent from the Global General Conference 1-3 July 2022.

How do we pray in a world ravaged by COVID-19 (and all its variants still unseen)?
How do we pray in a world showing signs of global warming while so many are denying it?
How do we pray in a world where natural disasters devastate animal, plant and human life?
How do we pray when we see and feel the impact of all these things on our own lives?
How do we pray when justice, peace and respect cannot be found in the human community?

These are the kinds of questions that have caused so many people all over this world to lose faith and to give up completely on the idea or the thought of prayer. So they don't ever acknowledge God or even a Higher Power and they refuse to give thanks or to ask for anything they want or need. This attitude and outlook only lead us to despair, loneliness, and isolation

I believe that one way to break this vicious cycle of downward-spiritual-mobility is to stop our thinking, and just do something up-lifting or inspiring. When we feel too negative to pray, we can break the chain of our thoughts with a song. I mean just sing -- any song. If you cannot sing then whistle a happy tune. It is true: when we sing, we pray twice. This is why I sing .Try it! Once you sing yourself into a better state of mind, then simply give thanks for one thing; then another; and still another, until your heart is filled with gratitude for the things you enjoy. Then ask simply for the opportunity to share something you have with one other person or group you care about. Pray with me now.

Most Gracious Hearer of Prayers,
Before I am swept away by the challenges I face on a daily basis, please give me a song!
Give me a song of gratitude for the way you fill me up, even if my glass is only half full, now.
Give me a song of courage, to lend a helping hand to some whose need is greater than mine.
Give me a song of faith, to remember all that you have done, so I can trust you again today.
Give me a song of love to help me work for justice by the reverence I show for all of life.
Teach me, oh God, to always keep a song in my heart. In all your holy names, Amen.
