Reinstatement of Mask Requirement

Dear Campus Community,

As has been the case since the start of the pandemic, our primary focus is on protecting the health and safety of our students, employees, and campus guests. We continue to work with our Public Health partners in monitoring the COVID-19 situation. According to the CDC, the level of community transmission in our surrounding communities (Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Walworth, Waukesha, and Lake County, IL) is high.

Given the significant increase in COVID cases and the highly contagious nature of the Delta variant, the CDC is recommending all individuals in areas where the transmission level is “substantial” or “high” wear masks while indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

Out of an abundance of caution and to do our part in reducing the spread of COVID-19, effective Tuesday, August 10, 2021, all individuals are required to wear a mask/face covering indoors except while eating/drinking, alone in a private office, or in your residence hall room. Disposable masks are available throughout campus (most offices/classrooms, Concierge Desk, Student Center conference rooms, CTS Tech Bar, Library, etc.) in the event that you need one. We will monitor this situation closely in our region and on campus and will provide updates on protocols as necessary.

Additionally, for those of you who may be interested in obtaining a COVID vaccination, Kenosha County Public Health representatives and our Health Services staff will be administering vaccines in the Student Center Hickory Room this week from 12-2 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Students and their guests attending Parkside Preview Day sessions will also be offered this opportunity. All three vaccine types are available.

Additional vaccination information is available on the UW-Parkside website.

For Students: Students requesting an accommodation for masks should contact Student Accessibility Services (formerly Disability Services) at dss@uwp.edu or 262-595-2372.

For Employees: If you have any questions or concerns about wearing a mask or require medical accommodation, please contact Human Resources at hr@uwp.edu.

Recap from 2020-21 School Year

The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) recognized two UW-Parkside Theatre Professors with Special Achievement Awards at the national (virtual) awards ceremony in May.

  • Jody Sekas and Kevin Gray received this well-merited recognition for their set and sound designs of Stupid F##king Bird.
  • Earlier in the award season, the UWP production of Stupid F##king Bird, directed by Fabrice Conte-Williamson, received an invitation to the KCACTF Region III as one of five plays to be showcased at the regional festival.
  • The production was seen by hundreds of new viewers. To the surprise of all involved, the playwright, Aaron Posner, who later spoke with the cast and crew about their work.
  • Theatre student Jessica Baker snagged the top prize—for the second time in three years—for her lighting design of Romeo and Juliet—directed by Professor Brian Gill.
  • Theatre student Jack Purves took first prize for his sound design of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)—directed by UWP alumnus Dylan Roberts.  Both Baker and Purves competed in May at the virtual KCACTF National Festival.
  • Including this winter’s award, UW-Parkside has won the Regional 3 lighting competition for five consecutive years.
  • Misti Bradford, chair of the Theatre Arts Department, was selected the incoming National Vice Chair of Design, Technology, and Management (DTM) for KCACTF. She will serve as Vice Chair for three years and, then, move up to become National Chair of DTM for an additional three-year commitment.

The Department of Theatre Arts at UWP spent much of last summer preparing to offer their students a rich, educational experience despite a world-wide pandemic.

  • In addition to mask-wearing, social distancing, and eventually frequent Covid testing, professors, students and staff had to reinvent their craft for the video camera.
  • The department would eventually livestream five fully produced plays as well as student-directed staged readings throughout the academic year.
  • The culminating production was the musical Cinderella with 16 cast members and 7 cameras and which was seen by hundreds of high school students both at home and in school.

Ask Me Volunteers
The University Staff Committee and the Ranger Welcome Committee invites YOU to participate in the “ASK ME” and Welcome Table initiatives. “ASK ME” has been extremely successful and very well received. This will be our 10th year for the initiative which began in 2011. This year we are offering 2 different volunteer opportunities, the “ASK ME” and Welcome Tables.

The NEW Welcome Tables on September 8th and 9th will celebrate the first few days of classes for Fall 2021! We are offering the opportunity for students to take “1st Day of School” photos and grab a donut or some fruit as they make their way to class. These tables will be placed next to “ASK ME” tables in the Student Center & Rita Parking Lots (8th & 9th) and Ranger Hall and Pike River Suites (8th only). The timeframe is from 7:30 am-11 am and we are asking for a 1-2 hour shift.

Currently, we are looking for University Staff and Faculty to volunteer for a 1-2 hour shift at one of the staffing tables. The dates and times needed to staff ASK ME tables are as follows.

If you are willing to volunteer for the “ASK ME” tables. please send your availability to April Puryear at puryeara@uwp.edu.

If you are willing to volunteer for the Welcome Tables please contact Amanda Balistreri at balistre@uwp.edu.
