Check out the brand new StoryWalk. We are showcasing Plant the Tiny Seed by Christie Matheson. Wend your way around the library and also check out the new sweet gum tree planted in honor of former director Kay Gove and donated by the Trustees of the Library. See if it's starting to leaf out.

The Basics of Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency

You can’t read the news without seeing hype about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Is this the first wave of a cashless future or just an over-hyped technology? One thing is for sure: there’s a lot of money riding on its success. Learn the basics of Bitcoin from Mike Gershbein, founder of "Very Smart People." While employed as a public librarian for 10 years, Gershbein provided one-on-one and group instruction in all types of technology.

Organized by the Rockport Library, in collaboration with the libraries in North Reading, Pepperell, Clinton, West Newbury, Haverhill, Saugus, Danvers, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough, Wilmington and Atkinson, NH.

A Conversation with Author and Poet Ocean Vuong, author of On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous

Join us for a very special event with prize-winning poet, novelist and educator Ocean Vuong, author of, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, in conversation with Professor Sandra Lim, Ph.D., prize-winning poet, and professor of English at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.

A brief reading will be followed by a conversation between our esteemed guests. Questions for the author can be submitted in advance to jfitzhanso@chelmsfordlibrary.org to be forwarded to Professor Lim.

You may have seen Stella Blunt’s beautifully painted Pysanky, or Ukrainian Easter eggs, while visiting the library this last month. We’ve enjoyed having them on display!

Darling You’re Making a Scene with Áine Greaney

Thursday, June 9 @ 6PM via ZOOM

Whether you write fiction or nonfiction, learn how to craft lively, memorable scenes that draw the reader in and make them care about your story and your real or imagined characters.

In this 1.5 hour workshop, participants will learn:

Macro and micro issues of scene building
Those opening and closing scenes
Show don’t tell; but when you *must* tell, learn how to balance “live” scenes with your narrative paragraphs
Achieving vividness
Making your readers care
Dialog in your scene

Garden Club Plant Sale

Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 - 11:30am

490 Main Street, on the Training Field

This is the Garden Club's major fundraiser for the year, this sale is also a considerable outreach to the gardeners of West Newbury and beyond. The plant inventory from local gardens includes standard, exotic cultivars and native plants. During the sale Club representatives will be on hand to share a wealth of advice. The majority of the Plant Sale proceeds support scholarships.

Laurel Grange Plant and Bake Sale

Saturday, May 21 from 9:00 - 2:00

Plants of many kinds, vegetables, herbs and a bake sale will highlight the annual Laurel Grange plant sale. The sale provides the opportunity to brighten one’s outdoor garden and home. Proceeds from the sale help to pay costs to keep the Laurel Grange in operation.
