16th Regular LCMS New Jersey District Convention "Believe, Belong, Bless"

May 31-June 2, 2012

"Believe, Belong, Bless" was this year's convention's theme based upon Phil 2:1-11:

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Prayer Highlights
  • For the Rev. Dr. Anthony Steinbronn, elected District President at the Convention on May 31, that God would bless his leadership of our district and bring about a smooth transition in the coming months.
  • For the Rev. William R. Klettke, in thanksgiving to God for his years of faithful ministry in New Jersey as pastor and District President.
  • For the Rev. Jim Buckman, that his work with the immigrant communities in the greater Newark area and throughout the district would flourish and bear fruit.
  • That God would raise up mission leaders within the New Jersey District who would help the church continue to nurture the faithful, and also challenge the faithful to reach out in love to the increasing numbers of people in our communities who are lost without Jesus Christ.
  • For all pastors, teachers, and church workers in the New Jersey District, that God would grant them to hold and teach the faith, boldly proclaiming to the world the righteousness that is wholly God's gift in the Savior, Jesus Christ.
  • For the poor, the unemployed, and the under-employed, that in the midst of their struggles, they may experience the blessing of all who take refuge in the Lord of Glory.
In thanksgiving for all mercies we have received from our earthly fathers and asking that fathers- receiving the loving care of our Heavenly Father- may rejoice in Christ's forgiveness, serve their families with love, and lead their families in receiving the Lord's Word and gifts, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.

(From Let Us Pray, Prayer of the Church, Third Sunday after Pentecost - June 17, 2012
