El Patron It's a wonderland. Old Faithful and the majority of the world's geysers are preserved here. They are the main reason the park was established in 1872 as America's first national park-an idea that spread worldwide. A mountain wildland, home to grizzly bears, wolves, and herds of bison and elk, the park is the core of one of the last, nearly intact, natural ecosystems in the Earth's temperate zone.

Deep Woods Made in USA Approximately 1,500 black bears live in the park. This equals a population density of approximately two bears per square mile. Bears can be found throughout the park, but are easiest to spot in open areas such as Cades Cove and Cataloochee Valley.

Whether sculpting or observing, wildlife has been a primary interest of mine for over 50 years. I have many gratifying memories traveling through our National Parks and being able to watch and observe wildlife in their natural habit. For any artist it is important to take time to be still and watch the animals they wish to sculpt.
Artwork is born in the artists' imagination and takes form with an idea, concept or observation of their subject. Some artist will sit down and sketch their ideas on paper while others, like myself will begin by "sketching" their idea three dimensionally in clay. This time of sketching is a very inspirational time for me personally, it is when the composition is established the mood, movement and emotion are created, giving my sculpture "life".
