GRANTS & RESOURCES
FREE! AIR QUALITY FLAG PROGRAM
The Montana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has a new FREE program to raise awareness about poor air quality in Montana. With the EPA Flag Program, an adopting school checks the Air Quality Index (AQI) each day and raises a flag the same color as the index to communicate the local air quality conditions.

The Flag Program creates public awareness of air quality conditions. Wildfires and winter inversion layers create unhealthy air that can pose health threats including decreased lung function and worsening or respiratory illness such as asthma. Children are more susceptible to poor air quality due to their respiratory systems not being fully developed.

A pediatrician will provide on-site training, deliver the flags, flagpole, and education materials for FREE. If your town is lacking an air quality monitor, we will assist in obtaining one at no extra cost.

INTERESTED in getting involved in the EPA Flag program? Contact Project Manager, Mac Nolde, at mac.nolde@montanahphc.org or (406) 763-1006.

FREE IMPLEMENTING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING IN MONTANA SCHOOLS
  • Four remaining Wednesday evening sessions from 4:30 - 5:30 pm: 11/10, 1/12, 2/9, 3/9
Developing social and emotional skills builds a foundation for everyone’s success. As schools continue to respond and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, the benefits of social emotional learning (SEL) are increasingly advantageous in supporting schools in their efforts to:
  • Address student learning loss
  • Manage difficult emotions in both students and school staff
  • Reconnect students and families to schools
This community of practice series will guide schools through the process of reviewing, adopting, and implementing SEL. This series is for school leaders who are taking steps to explore SEL implementation and/or strengthening their current SEL programs. Click here for details, dates, & registration.
