Island Surf Company

to the Chamber of Commerce!

Please join us in welcoming Colin and Shannon Dunlop of

Island Surf Co to our Chamber of Commerce!

In the Spring of 1998 Island Surf Co. (formerly Island Longboards) was born in downtown Qualicum Beach.

In 2001, the surf shop moved to a Highway 4, a great location conveniently situated on the only highway leading to the West Coast of Vancouver Island.

Over the years, Island Surf Co. has grown to become a leader amongst Canadian surf shops showcasing a boardroom stocked with world renowned boards such as Bing, Stewart, Dewey Weber, G&S, Walden, Hobie and Harbour to name a few. The boardroom at Island Surf Co. boasts the largest selection of longboards in Canada.

The Island Surf Co. surf shop and boardroom continues to grow with the constant feature always being the unparalleled selection of longboards, mid lengths and shortboards. They are always fully stocked with wetsuits in all sizes and the latest surf apparel.

Take a Hike!

There is still plenty of great weather left this year to gear up and get out to some of our amaziing hiking options, right in our back yard. Have a look at some of our favourites.

Rosewall Creek Provincal Park

Some six kilometers of hiking trails meander through the coastal Vancouver Island rainforest along the banks of a small creek, the route dotted by a series of picnic tables and highlighted by a small waterfall.

Hamilton Marsh

This beautiful wetland is 3 kilometers long and 1/2 kilometer wide - the largest wetland between Nanaimo, Cumberland, and Port Alberni and is surrounded by second growth forest.

Big Qualicum River Trail

Walk under the riverside tree canopy along trails including the 10km gravel hatchery service road. It's also a great level route for cycling groups. Trails follow the length of the river and end before Horne Lake Caves Road.

Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park

Spectacular views await at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park, filled with waterfalls, rock cliffs, campsites, shaded trails, and swimming holes. Located just off of Highway 4, where Cameron Lake empties into the Little Qualicum River over a series of rushing waterfalls.

2023 Cycle of Life Tour, August 26 & 27th! Support Your Local Hospice!

The 2023 team rides to raise much needed funds for critical services provided by the Oceanside Hospice Society. Those services include grief counselling, support groups, one-to-one companioning, and delivery of medical equipment so that palliative people in our community are able to remain in the comfort of their homes for as long as possible. All of these services are offered at no charge in the Oceanside community.

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Visitor Centre Manager Paul Trudeau has joined the Oceanside Wheelers to help raise money for Oceanside Hospice. Support him and Hospice by donating now! The link is just below!

Pathway to Trades

Do you know of a youth looking to get into the electrical or carpentry trades?

The Pathway to Trades program starts September 25th and provides a unique opportunity for young people to forge relationships, gain new skills and be supported as they work towards long-term employment or further education in the electrical and carpentry trades. This fully funded program will provide eight weeks of classroom training and four weeks of Trades Exploration delivered in partnership with Vancouver Island University. After completing class work and certifications (Occupational First Aid Level 1, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space Training), youth will participate in a four-week paid work experience.

Know of a youth aged 16 to 29 who is uncertain about their fall plans? Let them know about this terrific opportunity taking place entirely in Parksville.

Saahtlam Park - Detailed Design Park Plan

Building on from the 2020 Conceptual Plan, the Town is now developing a Detailed Park Plan for Saahtlam Park (formerly known as St. Andrews Waterfront Park).

While the Conceptual Park Plan provided a preliminary plan with a general overview of the proposed park design, this Detailed Park Plan will now provide a more comprehensive and detailed roadmap for the park project, with specific information about the site, facilities, amenities, landscaping, and programming.

Lanarc Consultants have been hired to facilitate this process and conduct public input to help inform the decision-making process. Public engagement opportunities are anticipated to commence in September 2023.

For more information on the project visit qualicumbeach.com/_standrews

The Temporary Cooling Centre will provide an air-conditioned facility, with seating and cold water to support residents during the hottest hours of the day.

Qualicum Beach Time Capsule:
