January 6, 2025
Dear Sr. Laura,
Happy Epiphany! I pray you have been enjoying this wonderful Christmas season and have had your own personal encounter with God.
I love how the letters of St. John use the word "Beloved." When we pause for a moment, we realize that we are each God's beloved. What would our world look like if every person was aware that he or she was beloved by God? Can you and I live from that identity? Perhaps that can be something to ponder in 2025.
We have many opportunities in this new year that may help you get in touch with the reality that we are all God's beloved. This evening we have a virtual Epiphany Prayer for Peace. There is great power in gathering together for prayer, even on Zoom, so we hope you will join us. Tomorrow we continue with our Women: Exploring Our Lived & Spiritual Realities series with Donna McCabe's program: The Beauty, Blessing and Spirituality of Friendship. Isn't that a wonderful way of tapping into belovedness! Our month continues with our Virtual Tea, Spiritual Awakenings Video Club, Sacred Time, Sacred Space day and the Women's and Men's groups. So January is off to a full start! As I'm writing this I'm aware that there may be a change in date for the Women's Guided Retreat that was scheduled from January 31-February 1st. As soon as we know when that will take place we will be sure to share the information.
As the Christmas decorations begin to come down, we are invited to live the challenge proposed by Howard Thurman:
The Work of Christmas
When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
The work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among others,
To make music in the heart.
May Mount Saint Mary House of Prayer help each one of us live the work of Christmas.
Blessings,
Sr. Laura
