Ordination and Installation of Elders

This Sunday, Parkway will observe one of the distinctive features of Presbyterian Church governance with the Ordination of Ruling Elders. In April, the congregation elected Diane DeCou, Grete McCoy, Keith Smith, Stephen Ware, III, and Sara Wolter to serve as Elders on the Session.

During the service, these people will be asked a series of questions. Eight of the questions are the same regardless of whether the individual is being ordained as a Ruling Elder, a Teaching Elder, or a Deacon. Only the final question varies with the office to which one is being ordained.

Many people would say that the Presbyterian process of "ordaining laypeople" is an oxymoron, a self-contradictory statement. Conversely, we uphold this as a great gift to the church. God gives people gifts for ministry. Ordination recognizes that some people have gifts to provide governance for the church.

Please offer a word of thanks to Brad Hoover, Laura Holmgreen, Lou Lambiotte, and Lucy McCracken as they rotate off the Session.

Please hold in your prayers Diane, Grete, Keith, Stephen, and Sara as they shoulder the responsibility of governing and leading Parkway Presbyterian Church.
Pool Party!
Water plays a huge role in the stories of the Bible. The landscape of the Bible is of arid lands with an oasis and wells dug deep to reach the water. The people of Israel are formed by their crossing through the Red Sea and later at the Jordan River. Baptism with water marks those who are disciples of Jesus.

Water is also a lot of fun for wading, splashing, and swimming!

Come to the Santa Fe Swim Club on Monday, June 14th, for a Parkway Pool Party. We have the pool available from 6:00-8:00 so bring a sack-supper, too. We will take a little break to talk about how important water is for everyone. See you there!

Father's Day Offering for PCHAS

Most people think of Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services as the agency that cares for children whose families can't care for them anymore. But a huge part of our mission is helping families in crisis stay together. We do this at no cost to the families, regardless of their circumstance. The families we serve face enormous threats to their unity: the death of a parent, divorce, illness, homelessness, violence and substance abuse.

We help:
· Families in need of emotional support
· Single parents who feel overwhelmed
· Grandparents raising grandchildren
· Families struggling with a child's difficult behavior
· Parents who are at the end of their rope and not sure where to turn

Our masters-level degree specialists have served more than 10,000 families over the past ten years. Their proven approach, as well as their compassion and patience, has saved many families from breaking apart. First, specialists make sure the children are safe. Then they help families create goals to work toward and support them when they need it, for as long as they need it.

Your contribution to the Father's Day Offering helps support the Child and Family program of Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services. The offering will be received on June 20.

Make plans now to join us on September 3-6 for the 50th annual MO-Ranch Parkway Presbyterian Labor Day Retreat. Celebrate 50 consecutive years of fun, fellowship, and relaxation on the beautiful Guadalupe River with Parkway members, families, and friends. Registration materials and information will be available at church starting next Sunday. You can also call Lynn Ware at 361-857-6805 or 361-946-0333 for more information or to receive information by email.

The Events and Fellowship committee is working on ways to make this 50th gathering special and welcomes any ideas.

Please help us spread the word to former attendees and consider inviting extended family members and friends to join us for this cherished tradition.

Collecting Pull Tabs for Ronald McDonald House
Joan is asking that you save your aluminum pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.

Collecting and donating pop tabs is an easy way for people of all ages to support the House!

Why Collect Pop Tabs?

The donated pop tabs are recycled for cash that is used to maintain the House and also help our families with lodging. Since 2000 the community has collected over 158 tons of tabs which translate into more than 3,569 room nights for families at the Ronald McDonald House!

It's a simple way to introduce community giving to young children.

Recycling pop tabs is beneficial to the environment.

It's a great way to become an ambassador for the Ronald McDonald House.

Is the Hope Academy Wall Important?  --
Through videos and photos, we've seen the happy faces of the girls at Hope Academy. In the safe confines of the school, the girls' experiences can change their lives and perhaps, even the world! Our investment in Hope Academy helps to create this bright future. We are less than $910 away our goal of $20,000 for the wall completion; thanks to donations in the last week, the total raised has jumped to $19,090! Let's complete the wall project and secure the educational foundation for these girls. visit the Tree-4-Hope website for more information.
