Meet the New Member of the Chamber of Commerce

Kimon Giakoumakis!

Please join us in welcoming to the Chamber of Commerce Kimon Giakoumakis of Extreme Eatery.

Kimon has been cooking up a storm for years in the Oceanside area with Thalassa Restaurant, Extreme Eatz Food Truck and and a Successful Catering Business as well. But he has really started something amazing with Extreme Eatery! Located in the heart of Parksville (155 Morison Ave, Parksville BC) Kimon serves up amazing burgers, poutine and inspired cocktails. His claim to fame is the Gladiator Caesar, which includes a pound of wings, a 12 oz burger, a pound of dry ribs, onion rings and more built on top of their (already) famous double Caesar. Finish it in a half hour and win a free T Shirt!

Kimon's latest project is Extreme Greek; authentic Greek cuisine served in his custom built food truck! Extreme Greek will be located right beside the Qualicum Beach Visitor Centre this summer, and is also available for private Catering Events. To Book a Catering Event click HERE!

PATHWAY TO TRADES – FREE Training for Youth – in Parksville!

Do you know of a 16-29 year old who is interested in the electrical and carpentry trades? If so, send them our way!

Pathway To Trades is a 12 week program providing FREE training and PAID work experience for youth.

Trades Exploration will be delivered in partnership with Vancouver Island University right here in Parksville! Participants will also earn industry recognized certifications including Occupational First Aid Level 1, WHMIS, Fall Protection, Confined Space Training and more.

Info Sessions are taking place in June with a program start date of July 17th.

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with SOS!

June 21, 2023. 5:00 - 6:00PM.

SOS is hosting a National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration on June 21 at Memorial Plaza and the public is invited to attend! SOS has been marking this important day internally for several years and is excited to open this event up as a shared learning opportunity and celebration. Come experience Indigenous culture including men’s and women’s traditional, jingle, and fancy shawl style dancing. The event will take place from 5 to 6 pm. Memorial Plaza is located on Memorial Avenue between Alberni Hwy. and McMillan St.

What's New at the Old School House?!?

I'd like to start this month's message with an echo of the title of the current exhibition "A Show of Gratitude".

We are very grateful to the Parksville Qualicum Beach Community Foundation for a grant to help us with some much needed building improvements! Thanks to this wonderful local organization we will have some new blinds coming to our classroom, and were able to replace a failed hot water tank.

We would also like to thank the Coastal Community Credit Union for a small grant to purchase a laptop for our administrative team. 

The galleries are as cool as the other side of the pillow, so be sure to take a break from the beach and come dream with "A Show of Gratitude", 70 years of incredible work by Hannes Grosse, showing until June 24th!

Our AGM is set for June 20th, on zoom - please be sure to sign up!

This summer we have a fantastic lineup for our Jazz Festival in the Garden, and artists are signing up for our annual Grand Prix D'Art, now in its 30th year!
