Take Home Advent Wreath
Sunday, November 22nd, 3:00 - 4:00PM

The season of Advent begins on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, November 29th. One of our typical Advent traditions is the lighting of the candles to mark the four Sundays in Advent and Christmas. While we all worship in different locations this year, at church and at home, the Education Committee is putting together small take-home Advent wreaths your can make with your family and light each Sunday. These are not just for the children, but for everyone young and old. Don't worry, no artistic skills are needed. Members of the committee will be in the church parking lot this Sunday afternoon to hand out wreath kits from 3:00PM to 4:00PM. Just drive up to the parking lot, stay in your car and someone will bring you a kit. There are enough for one per household. If you cannot make it on Sunday Afternoon, but would like a kit email Laura at Laura@parkwaypc.org to make other arrangements. Hope you will stop by on Sunday!

The Gingerbread Project
We are very blessed to be able to continue our Gingerbread Project during Advent although it will have to be done in a very different manner in 2020. Rather than getting a PCHAS (Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services) child's name from the Gingerbread Tree and signing up in the Narthex, we will sign up through Sign Up Genius online.  Please click here to signup, you will see the name, age, and gender of the 32 local PCHAS clients who need sponsors. If you do not have access to a computer, please call the church office or Judy Braselton at (361)215-1841 to sign up.

Once you have signed up, you will receive a list of the items needed and the items wished for by your child. Please return your gift to the church office where a gingerbread cut-out with your child's name will be waiting to be attached to your gift. Please do NOT wrap the gifts although gift bags will be greatly appreciated. Please have your gift at the church office on or before Sunday, December 13th. If you want to make a monetary donation, please do so on Realm or send a check to the church office with "Gingerbread Project" on the memo line. Thank you for sponsoring these PCHAS young clients and making their Christmas a little merrier.

Thanksgiving is Coming Soon!
We are aiming to provide 25 "baskets" via $30 gift cards to HEB, and the turkeys, which run about $20 each. Your donations for the Thanksgiving Basket Project are  welcomed. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of $1250! Any additional donations will help feed more individuals!  You can donate to the food basket ministry by sending a check to the church office, click here or through the "Give" tab on the church website, and find the FoodBaskets fund and fill  in the details to complete your gift. You can text parkwaypc to 73256 (follow the prompts)

Donations will be used to purchase HEB gift cards and turkeys for families through the Purple Door.
A New Use for Old Pill Bottles
The Gabbard Health Clinic at Metro Ministries is accepting donations of clean pill bottles with lids to re-use in the free clinic.  Buying new bottles on a tight budget is unnecessary when there are willing volunteers who will take the labels off their old pill bottles and bring them to Parkway to drop in our collection box in the narthex.  By the way, the Mission Outreach Committee is looking for the most efficient way to remove those sticky labels; if you know of an effective method, please contact Joan Salazar.  Thank you for helping the citizens of our city who are in need of the free services of the Gabbard Health Clinic.

Pledge Dedication Sunday

Whether you bring a pledge card to worship, mail it to the church midweek, or fill out your pledge information online at midnight, this Sunday we will dedicate your financial commitments to the church to a greater good through the ministry of the church.

2020 will go down in history as a year of...something. We didn't always know what we were to do, or the best way to do it, but we still accomplished ministry in Jesus' name.
  • Worship services were held weekly. The platform changed from a recording on ZOOM, to recorded clips edited into a whole, to livestreaming. The format changed, but each week we had an opportunity for worship. Amazingly, the participation in worship online significantly multiplied our reach.
  • Hands-on mission was curtailed at Loaves and Fishes and in Guatemala, but our support for mission continued through your generous donations.
  • Every crisis is also an opportunity and we continue to explore new ways we can be the church, offering hope to a world in need.
Thank you for your support of our ministry in 2020 and for your continuing faithfulness for 2021.

Metro Ministries Poor Man's Supper

Parkway Presbyterian Church served as the event chair for Metro Ministries Poor Man's Supper. The event was held at the Omni Hotel as well as a live-streaming version for those who decided not to attend in-person. Joe Castillo, from Atlanta, was the keynote speaker. Joe used a light box to produce sand art, an ever changing shadow picture composed of sand. Joe uses this art form to tell stories and inspire audiences around the world.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to support our work with Metro Ministries.

Congratulations
David & Elizabeth Richter, who were honored as 2020 recipients of the Distinguished Citizens Award by the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America.  Thank you!
Sara's Kids For November Birthdays
Please return gifts to Parkway by November 23rd.  Click here to sign up.

I continue to be thrilled to be a part of this project at Parkway. Thank you, Charlene Chesshir, for pushing to get us back on track providing gifts for children in foster care even in the middle of a pandemic shutdown.  Thank you to all of you whether you are providing gifts or funds for us to purchase gifts.  In spite of long lists, we continue to be able to keep up. Thanks. You are a class act.
