The REACH Board of Directors would like to extend gratitude to Peter Peters for leading REACH since the Fall of 2015. Peter led us through becoming a nonprofit corporation, bringing us to where we are today, with three teams leading our mission to address the housing crisis in the Rochester area.

Project Haven News

In October, our newsletter subscribers received a Special Edition Newsletter on behalf of Project Haven, expressing an urgent need for financial donations. Thank you to our generous donors who have contributed since we published.

We still need our community's help to raise the funds that will keep our shelter doors open until Code Blue begins in mid-November.

Please visit the donation page to contribute, making sure to designate your donation to Project Haven Shelters.

Edgerton Meadows Updates

This month, the team started writing our ESSHI application for operations, a second NYS RFP for nonprofit capital projects, and updated our community engagement brochure. We submitted the next application to the City to request that they abandon the unused portion of Clarence Park, allowing us to create a private drive within the property.

While we were busy writing, our friends at Pathways to Housing PA shared a series of excellent videos with us.

November is National Homelessness Awareness Month. Our friends at Abundance Food Co-op are raising awareness on our behalf with their Round-Up campaign this month. Stop by and shop to support the only cooperative food market in the city and round up your purchase to help build the Tiny Home Village.

At our meeting on October 18th, we welcomed Dr. Russell Weaver, a quantitative geographer with the Cornell Industrial and Labor Relations School, Buffalo Co-Lab. Prior to this meeting, we had read a report created by Dr. Weaver entitled No Shelter No Safety.

Dr. Weaver gave us an introduction to some Rochester mapping tools the Co-Lab has produced, focusing on the correlation between the number of evictions and the crime rate in any given district. To explore this interactive site, click here.

Additionally, for those who would like to begin discussions among people of faith, our Advocacy Team Chair, Peter, has compiled a reading list.
