We are sincerely grateful for the recent financial contributions in response to our October Appeal Letter. These donations have been vital in ensuring that our shelter sites have remained funded and fully operational. We cannot thank you all enough!
In addition, there has been overwhelming support in the form of items from our shelter needs list. Monroe County recently expanded its Code Blue protocols, allowing Project Haven to offer shelter to 30 additional guests in our warming centers. We have risen to the task thanks to our benefactors' generosity.
Some May Ask...
Why do we do what we do the way we do it?
We had a COVID outbreak at one of our sites recently, but because of our individual room model, we were able to quickly catch and isolate what would have been a disaster in a congregate setting.
Reflecting on our accomplishments over the past year, we realize our tremendous progress in moving the Tiny Homes project forward. We refined our vision of the community that is built with trauma-informed care in mind to provide permanent supportive housing for people who've been chronically homeless.
We've nearly completed the predevelopment phase and variances needed to begin construction. We submitted a concept paper to NYS OTDA’s Homeless Housing Assistance Program, which could result in us gaining 100% of the remaining funding to build the entire project in 2024.
On December 19, Margy Shavick, a social worker in Project Haven, will speak about the barriers to housing many of our shelter guests experience.
Organize
We are teaming up with members of the Shelter Team to support holiday festivities for our guests. In the course of this, we hope to meet and learn from guests about their experiences regarding barriers to housing.
