In June we asked you to pray for our summer camps. We can joyfully say that every single request was granted. We adapted to the new restrictions and safety measures due to COVID-19. Parents trusted us and signed up their children and youth. We had a total of 330 campers and leaders over the five-week period. There was not a single COVID-19 infection.
We sensed God’s merciful protection in many ways. There were COVID-19 outbreaks in many areas around us, but not in Camp Berea! Our “not so sturdy” meeting tents are quite vulnerable to extreme weather, but several times when huge thunderheads were right on our doorstep they seemed to part and move around us. Other times, the temperature rose into the 100’s in some of the surrounding areas, but we were 8-10 degrees cooler at camp. We even had very few flies and very few injuries this year; Mark didn’t have to go to the emergency room once, an activity which normally takes a good part of his time during camps.
Now we don’t mean to say God always makes this kind of distinction between the circumstances of His people and of those around them. But it really happened for us this summer at camp.
Much more important than all of these details of grace at camp, we were able to see many who passed from darkness to light in a spiritual sense. Many non-Christians came and heard a clear presentation of the Gospel for the first time. Many youth on the edge of abandoning their faith had encounters with God that brought them back into His arms. Many were challenged to grow and take steps towards maturity and service to others. So thank you for your prayers, they were fully and graciously answered.
