Living here in beautiful Wisconsin we are all too familiar with seasons and change. We know that there is beauty in it. There is a reminder of perseverance and sustainability while we watch the leaves begin to turn colors, and with time slowly fall to the ground. We know it's a necessary cycle that will bring with it new life in the spring. Only 160 days to go!
Just as the calendar has seasons, so do we. We have seasons for preparation and planning. We have seasons with robust schedules and heavy workloads. And when it's time, there are seasons for rest and rejuvenation. What's beautiful about change is that it creates opportunity for growth. Growth in ourselves and growth in others.
For the last four years a small but mighty team of volunteers have worked with purpose to plan and prepare a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal to be served to the Elkhorn community and surrounding areas. Little Miss Sweet Peas', Colleen O'Neil, along with Elkhorn native, Cindy McKenna, and friends from Millard Church have gone above and beyond to ensure that hundreds of people were well nourished. Not only with a meal, but with the knowledge that someone cared. This meal, this genuine act of kindness is special. Special to those who serve and special to those who receive.
Over the last few months, founding leadership knew this year would be different. They knew they were entering into a season of rest. This group swiftly met with a small team and were intentional about finding others who would carry on this annual tradition that serves well over 300 people in and around our community.
The step back from the first wave of leadership and area volunteers has allowed several new groups the opportunity to step up and challenge themselves with a new-to-them tradition. We're proud to announce this year's Community Thanksgiving Meal will be hosted by Southern Lakes Evangelical Free Church, Evergreen Golf Club, The Elkhorn Chamber and The Nicholas D. Sergi Foundation - Giving Makes You Smile! What was built with love and attention to serving our community will continue to benefit all those who are eager to receive this holiday season. Be it a meal or just a little bit of care from the community where they live, work and play.
