St Paul Lutheran Church, Ridgefield, is located on the original and ancestral homelands of the Mohican, Munsee, Lenape, and Schaghticoke peoples, and we give thanks for their presence here since time immemorial. We also wish to recognize and honor all our Indigenous siblings who have and continue to call this land their home. | | Ensure that you are seeing the entire eBlast. from the Pastor...
Sunday marks the end of our liturgical year with the Feast of Christ the King.
Many of us have spent this last year participating in No Kings protests, reminding ourselves that the United States was founded on the principle of the right of the people to govern, with a government divided into three seats of power, with no one branch more powerful than the next. This was seen as absolutely necessary in the new republic, recognizing the atrocities and lack of freedoms endemic among the European countries with kings that no matter how benevolent, still had complete power over their subjects.
What a contrast with our king, Jesus! Jesus ‘rules’ from the cross, where he shows that true power lies in self giving love. Jesus, the one who
is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, for in him all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through him and for him. He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross. (Colossians 1: 15-20)
This is the king we worship and adore.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, in our prayers and our reflections, we also remember the Indigenous people for whom this fourth Thursday in November is one of solemnity and mourning as they were systematically removed from the land they had called home for centuries.

| | We are so grateful for partners and concerned businesses and individuals who so generously give to the food pantry. We know the need will only continue to grow, especially with the advent of cold weather and the uncertainty of help from government agencies tasked with combatting food insecurity. | | |
Our feeding programs, under Patricia’s management, is committed to feeding our neighbors. While we will no longer publicly post information about our programs, we are still feeding people.
