Embracing Kindness, Gratitude and Compassion

This Thanksgiving Season

Walk Like a Dog!

In honor of Human-Animal Relationship Awareness (HARA) Week, here’s a fun tip to celebrate the special bond with your furry companion: Walk Like a Dog! It turns out that walking just like your dog—stopping, sniffing, and exploring—is actually more beneficial than speed walking. Let your dog set the pace and see where the adventure takes you! Read on to learn how this simple approach can boost your well-being. 🐾

Paws, Paints, and Kids

Get ready for a colorful experience with “Paws & Paintbrushes with Project HumaneKind,” starting Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Los Gatos Recreation Youth Center! 🎨 This six-session program for ages 8–12 lets young artists meet shelter animals and, with the guidance of art teachers Vandana Pawar and Zohreh Safdari, create paintings or sculptures of their favorite new friends. Through art, kids will discover the importance of compassion and empathy for animals. Registration opens December 6! 🖌️🐶 Register here!

Project HumaneKind Goes to Math Class

When math meets real-world impact! An 8th-grade algebra class at Frank S. Greene Middle School recently welcomed Project HumaneKind to explore how math can help solve community issues. Leonor Delgado from our education team led a discussion on the growth of homeless cat and dog populations, encouraging students to develop an equation to track this trend. From discussing Trap-Neuter-Return efforts to other humane solutions, students got a firsthand look at how they can apply their math skills to make a difference! 🧮🐱

Project HumaneKind Partners with YCS at Service Fairs

Project HumaneKind teamed up with Youth Community Service (YCS) to connect with local students at recent service fairs hosted by Middle College at Foothill Community College and East Palo Alto Academy. Jennifer Ott Cameron, our animal behavior specialist, and Leonor Delgado, our bilingual advisor, met with students interested in animal-related projects, from drawing and photographing animals to studying animal care and behavior. Students learned about ways to make a positive impact through community service, individual projects, and hands-on involvement in animal welfare. 🐾

Hosting Guests: Keeping Pets Calm

With the hustle and bustle of holiday guests, it’s important to keep pets comfortable. Create a quiet, cozy space where your pet can retreat if they feel overwhelmed by new faces and sounds. Providing familiar toys, blankets, and treats can help soothe any anxiety. Remind guests not to feed pets table scraps—holiday foods can contain ingredients that are harmful to our furry friends.
