“Nurturing yourself is not selfish – it’s essential to your survival and your well-being.”

– Renee Peterson Trudeau
May will be bringing more than flowers this month, it will also usher in a conversation about our Mental Health! Thank you to the Elkhorn School District for creating a Mental Health Challenge for each of us to participate in. If you missed May 2nd's challenge, make it your Mental Health Wednesday practice this week!
MAY 2ND'S RECAP

AND OUR COMMUNITY.

Mark your calendars for the next three months and cut and paste these reminders

May 9th
Doing something nice for others can help your mental health.
What gratitude/Act of Kindness did you do and share on social media
how this ignited your mental health.

May 16th
Self-Care is not just a bubble bath or a massage but also breathing.
Share how you mindfully take care of yourself to better your mental health.

May 23rd
Go for a walk. Do an activity. Share how you physically motivate yourself
to enhance your mental health.
Something I've learned [and relearned] is a best practice of letting someone else know you're struggling. Even if it's a simple, "I'm having a rough day [week...month...year]". When we bring our struggle into the light and stop pretending, it empowers us to create real and lasting change. It identifies with others and creates unity. It takes us from singular based thinking to community derived culture that not only supports us, but also the generations we're leading to take our place.

Let's stop pretending that mental health is reserved for those bound by straight jackets and confined to padded rooms.

An estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and older -- about 1 in 4 adults -- suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time. John Hopkins Medicine

So for our teachers standing in full classrooms, there is not one hurting student, but many. For our business leaders who employ hundreds of households, there is not one suffering, but many.
So as the many are afflicted, the larger collective must rally to support and create pathways for care. Let's allow May to be our launching pad for how we open up our eyes, ears and hearts to those that sit next to us in class, work with us at the office or live with us at home.

LEARN & GROW
Your exercise goal is 30 minutes on most days. Aim for a total of 150 or more minutes a week. Not
sure you can fit one 30-minute block of exercise time into your day? Split it up into shorter 10- and
15-minute blocks. Do this 2 to 3 times a day. You’ll still get all of the benefits of exercise.
A FREE monthly seminar series brought to you by the Elkhorn Resilience Coalition.
