What is a "slipped disc"
"The phrase 'slipped disc' has come into popular usage to refer to a bulging, ruptured, or herniated disc." A disc becomes herniated when the tough outer layer of the inter-vertebral disc cracks or tears and the soft gelatin-like inner layer pushes out. This can be very painful, especially once the herniated disc begins to press on the nerves around it.
