SHPE JOINS FCC ADVISORY COMMITTEE
SHPE CEO Raquel Tamez has been selected as a member of the FCC's Diversity in Tech Working Group of the Advisory Committee on Diversity and Digital Empowerment.

This working group will study the underemployment and lack of promotion opportunities for women and minorities in the tech sector and propose a range of approaches businesses could use to address these issues; highlight best practices of industry leaders in training and employment diversity in the tech field; and develop recommendations for innovative training programs in science, technology, engineering, and math.
SHPE ADVOCATES FOR DREAMERS
In a January letter to Congressman Will Hurd (R-Tex.) and Congressman Pete Aguilar (D-Cal.), CEO Raquel Tamez wrote "On behalf of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and our 10,000 members nationwide, I write in support of the Uniting and Securing America Act (USA Act) which we believe is a strong bipartisan solution that will allow our “DREAMers” to remain in the United States."

Tamez goes on to say, "As an organization focused on STEM, we can attest to the fact that thousands of the immigrant students you seek to protect in your legislation are some of the brightest minds in our nation and seeking STEM careers."

This is just the start of a long-term plan to advocate on behalf of the SHPE membership and to be your voice in Washington, DC. We hope you all will write similar letters to your representatives to show your support as well. As always, we are better together!
STEM EDUCATION COALITION
SHPE is proud and honored to now be a member of the STEM Education Coalition. The STEM Education Coalition works aggressively to raise awareness in Congress, the Administration, and other organizations about the critical role that STEM education plays in enabling the U.S. to remain the economic and technological leader of the global marketplace of the 21st century.
