Worship Service Update
During the recent Deacon meeting is was decided that our worship service will be moving indoors, for the colder months, beginning on October 31st. There will continue to be one service, at 10:00 a.m. and our indoor COVID protocols remain the same (masks required, regardless of vaccination status).

In the meantime, October 17th and 24th worship service will be held in our Garden of Remembrance at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting.

We will continue to live-stream services on our Facebook page and YouTube for those who prefer to stay home. You will also be able to view the video’s on either platform after the service. Please use one of the links below to access to our Live Stream:
Holy Cow! Survey starts on Sunday
Asking what you value about Gilead Congregational Church is the core of the church survey that kicks off this Sunday, October 17. All currently active members of our church are needed to complete this portrait of our church and what it values. Phyllis and Les Kurz are our “Cow Wranglers” (survey co-chairs), and they are working closely with Pastor Matt to help us reach 100 percent participation. The survey will run for a limited time. We strongly encourage filling out the survey using the online link, but if unable please contact our office and we’ll figure out how to get you included.

Also, as noted by Jon Kimble during Sunday's worship service, a Pastoral Letter was sent to our church community last week. This letter provides more information about the Holy Cow! survey and Settled Pastor Search activities.
Blood Drive Success!!
Thank you to all that supported, volunteered for and participated in our October 6th Blood Drive!

There were 42 people that checked in resulting in 35 good pints! Those 35 pints can help 105 patients in need once the red cells, plasma and platelets are separated out.

In the picture we have some of our volunteers working the registration table (from left to right: Margot Sheehan, Jean Dormer, Judy Brandi).
Fellowship Activities
COFFEE HOURThe Fellowship Committee will continue to host coffee hour following worship service. We hope to see you there!
HARVEST PARTY - Sunday October 17th:
Come celebrate the Season of Giving Thanks following the 10:00am service. There will be crafts for kids and adults, games, and festive fall food and drinks to enjoy. The Fellowship committee is looking for donations of worn out long sleeved shirts to use in making no-sew shirt sleeve pumpkins. These can be dropped off in the labeled container outside the church doors. Fall colors and shirts of varying textures appreciated.
CORN HOLE and FAITH & FILM:  Continue to look to our eNews for details about future events!
Budget Hearing October 14th and Annual Meeting November 7th
2022 Budget Hearing: The Budget Hearing will be held at 6:45 p.m. on October 14th in the Fellowship Hall. The Trustees will formally approve the 2022 Budget during the Trustee meeting, also on October 14th.

The GCC Annual Report: Distribution of our church annual report (includes all committee reports, 2021 financials and the 2022 budget) to the membership will occur by October 24th.

Annual GCC Membership Meeting: Our annual membership meeting will be held on November 7th. Venue of the meeting (in person or virtual or hybrid) will be determined as we get closer to the date.

Third Quarter Giving Statements
We are grateful for your financial support of the Gilead Church. Third quarter giving statements will be mailed out this week to give you an update of your giving to date for this year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to be in touch with Joan Cordier at 860-228-4718.

We know these are challenging times. If we can be a support to you, please contact Pastor Matt at 860-228-3077.

Thank you!
Liturgists Needed (November through April)
As we return to indoor worship on a regular basis we will once again be looking for Liturgists! These are the folks that assist in the worship service by reading the Scripture lesson and a short introduction provided by Pastor Matt. The material will be sent to you earlier in the week so that you can familiarize yourself with it and you’ll sit on the alter in the chair next to the choir loft during the service.

Our Deacon’s have been filling this role, and we’re grateful for their help, but it’s time to recruit from the congregation once again. The only requirement is that you know how to read and enjoy the “Catbird” seat on the altar. There will be a signup sheet on the table with the name tags covering the Sundays from November through April 2022.

If you’d like to sign up early or have any questions, please contact Ginny Miller (860-228-0272).
Registration is now open for the Sacred Ground Sessions
St. Peter’s and the Hebron Coalition on Diversity and Equity (CoDE) have joined hands and acquired a grant through the Hebron Greater Together Community Fund of the Hartford Foundation for Giving to offer an extensive program on understanding race, culture, and systemic causes that have led us to a place of deep division on issues of race.

As a result, a program created by The Episcopal Church called This Is Sacred Ground, is 10 intensive sessions spread over a 6-month period, on Mondays at 7:00 p.m., beginning November 1. It is important to stress this will be a non-threatening, non-judgmental program intended to help promote understanding.
To register and reserve your spot for this online course please email Carol Geyer at Cgeyer260@gmail.com.
An Update from HELO
September was a very busy month at HELO with continued demolition and repairs, vocational classes and back-to-school preparations.
Youth Group is Back!!
We have really missed seeing everyone face to face and are planning some events so we can all get together safely and catch up. All youth in grade 7 and above and their friends are welcome to join our Youth Group events.
Here are some dates to add to your calendar. Some of them are coming up quickly and we realize it’s short notice, but hope you can join us.
  • Sunday, 10/17 6:00-7:30 pm October Meeting with PUMPKIN BOWLING at GCC
As is to be expected, we will be following COVID protocols, so please bring a mask to wear when we are inside the Fellowship Hall. We have some ideas for the year ahead, but are looking for some input from all of you about what you would like to do going forward. We certainly will have some limitations, but do think there are lots of things we can do if we think creatively. As always, please invite a friend to come along.
If you have any questions about our a Youth Group, please contact Heidi Byrne (hnbbyrne@comcast.net).

Board of Visitors / Pastoral visits

We have all been the grateful recipients of a Pastoral visit, sometimes when illness affected us or when difficulties loomed or even when all was well. In the times of an interim ministry, the connections of the congregation become especially significant and to foster those connections, the Deacons have established a Board of Visitors, composed of active members of our church family.

If you know of someone who might benefit from a visit, please contact Dale either by phone (860-228-3514) or email (dcdjbland1@aol.com) and she’ll set it up in coordination with Pastor Matt.
