Let the Halloween Decorating Begin!

Our homegrown tradition of clinic Halloween decorating returns! It’s a testament to our Corporate Culture Value of Teamwork every year.

There are two contests, sponsored by the Corporate Culture Committee.

  • Lobby decorating is a clinic-wide activity
  • Pumpkin decorating is to recognize individual spirit

Lobby decorating 1st place winners will get free breakfast!

There are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes for each division 😊

COVID & Flu Testing Report

Terry Reilly is tracking patient COVID and flu activity and sharing that information on the TR Intranet each week.

This data provides a snapshot so everyone can see what's happening in clinics. The information is not used as a basis for masking guidelines, those are based on CDC information for our region.

If you have tested positive for COVID or the flu, or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, contact the Employee Health Nurse:

Improved Emergency Communications

What is happening?

Safety is a priority at Terry Reilly for patients and staff.

Based, in part, on input from the employee survey, we are implementing a new emergency communications platform that adds on-screen alerts, emails, and other notifications to the current overhead and desktop audio system.

The new emergency communications platform allows us to create customized messages for Shelter in Place or Facility Lockdown emergencies.

The application will also have a “panic button” feature so staff can trigger Code Grey or Code Silver alerts if they don’t have access to make calls or if other circumstances prevent normal code-calling procedures.

When does this become effective?

We are training clinic staff through the end of the year.

What does this mean to me?

Please watch for emails and alerts. We will schedule visits at each clinic for training and to answer any questions.

Terry Reilly Behavioral Health Triage Line

Emily Hardig, Crisis Intervention Specialist

What is the Behavioral Health Triage Line?

This is an internal triage line available to all TRHS employees who may need assistance in facilitating extra care to patients experiencing a mental health crisis.

Access this resource on the TR Intranet Home Page (Sharepoint) by clicking the Triage tile. There is a list of who to call and the hours available.

I am one of the staff members covering the triage line. I'm here to help all TR employees complete a warm handoff for any patient experiencing significant emotional distress during their interactions with you. They might have an urgent BH need, or exhibit any level of SI/HI (Suicidal Ideation/Homicidal Ideation).

During the call, we will assess the patient’s risk of harm, collaboratively outline a safety plan, and coordinate the transition of care, whether that be a higher level of care or an urgent internal referral to the BH department or psych medication management.

When should I call the BH Triage Line?

Example 1: You are in an appointment with a patient who is experiencing SI/HI, whether that be verbally, indicated by their PHQ9 (depression screening), or CSSR-S (suicide severity rating), or the patient discloses that they feel unsafe. Additionally, if you do not feel safe with the patient leaving the appointment without further discussion/assessment of their presenting Suicidal Ideation.

Example 2: A patient calls in or presents at a clinic as very emotional, is crying excessively, expresses feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness during an appointment, or seems unsure/uncertain of their stability.

How can I best support you?

I’m here to be a bridge in assisting the patient through the process of receiving or transitioning to an appropriate level of care. I assist in coordinating urgent care and provide consistent contact with patients with needs that require more consistent follow-up from the BH team while they may be on our waitlist for services.

I’m not a licensed clinician, but I can de-escalate/stabilize patients in this setting and provide ongoing support in their journey towards getting connected to BH care. It is important that patients have consistent and reliable support in this process as it can be very difficult or daunting to navigate independently while also experiencing a mental health crisis.

About me:

I graduated in 2022 with a BA in Human Services from California State University- Dominguez Hills, and am currently completing a Master of Social Work program at Boise State University.

I have experience ranging from crisis care, domestic violence and family reunification, serious and persistent mental illness, and SUD populations. I first gained experience in crisis care while working at an emergency shelter for women and children who have experienced domestic violence and/or human trafficking. Since then, I've completed training provided by the Crisis Prevention Institute, Los Angeles Housing Authority, ASIST, and other modules specific to mental health emergencies. I am very passionate about suicide prevention and assisting individuals in accessing appropriate and quality care.

In my spare time, I can usually be found working on music or spending time outdoors with my dog, Lennon. I also try to prioritize traveling and crossing things off my bucket list, which most recently was bungee jumping in Whistler, BC.

📣Coming Soon: Performance Evaluations

Each year, Terry Reilly employees are asked to participate in a performance evaluation. Identifying key strengths and opportunities for professional growth is part of our larger strategy to invest in and retain employees.

This process is done electronically and will be delivered through our ADP Workforce Now platform.

You will have the opportunity to submit a self-evaluation for your supervisor to consider and incorporate into your final review.

Your manager will then schedule time to discuss the evaluation and establish upcoming goals. Employees hired after July 1 are typically exempt until the following year.

Watch for an email soon from our HR department with detailed instructions.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Christina Martinez, Terry Reilly Housing Navigator

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

As a Housing Navigator, I regularly see domestic violence survivors who have taken the big step of reporting their abuser and taking action to protect themselves and their children.

Finding an affordable place to live is one of the biggest challenges domestic abuse survivors face.

Stable housing is a critical component of Economic Stability - one of the Social Determinants of Health recognized by Terry Reilly for its connection to physical and mental health. Terry Reilly screens for barriers to healthcare at every appointment to support our patients.

When I meet with a patient, we immediately begin to explore options. We start with a list of places they know where they can go to and be safe, and if there is nowhere they can go, then we talk about staying in the home safely. There are court options and camera systems, and the Nampa Family Justice Center helps put these pieces in place.

When the family is in a rental, a Terry Reilly Housing Navigator helps with landlord communication.

When a patient needs help covering basic expenses, I help them apply with the Idaho Housing and Finance Association. I always request the maximum rent assistance, which consists of the current month's rent and help for three future months.

We also provide a list of food banks and resources for clothes, shoes, and household items. Vouchers from Deseret Industries help supply these basics.

Housing navigators can be reached at (208) 318-1326 or PatientNav@trhs.org.

Terry Reilly's Clinical Practice Team volunteered for Boise Parks and Recreation to refurbish and paint 13 picnic tables at Willow Lane Athletic Complex in Boise.

Thank you for giving back to our community!

Terry Reilly Training Coordinator Erica Mendez delivered apples and student program information to every location (seen here handing the package to Florence Practice Manager Marie Clark).

Since 2020, 275 students have completed nearly 45,000 preceptor (mentoring/training) hours.

It’s part of our commitment to workforce development, and hopefully, even if students don’t stay with Terry Reilly post-training, they’ll take with them a little piece of our mission of providing affordable, accessible, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the community.

Employee Spotlight: Kim Valine

I started with TR in March 2020, working in Patient Financial Services as a Billing Specialist II. I oversee all commercial billing, workman's comp, and motor vehicle accidents, and provide billing information for patients' legal counsel.

Before I came to Terry Reilly, I worked for a very large anesthesia group, billing commercial and Medicare claims.

First and foremost, I love working with our patients, helping them navigate the nuances of insurance, and providing support for anything else they may need.

My values strongly align with TR’s core values, and I am proud to be a part of such an amazing company! And the coolest thing about my location is the people 😊

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, gardening, and puzzles.

Fun fact about me: I am an excellent cook. Try my favorite appetizer recipe, below.

Honey, Walnut, and Goat Cheese Crostini Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Servings: 10

Ingredients

1 1 lb crusty baguette

3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1 cup store-bought candied walnuts

5 ounces goat cheese - softened to room temperature

Honey for drizzling - I used a few tablespoons

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Slice the baguette into 1/2" pieces and arrange on a baking sheet. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat both sides of each piece with olive oil. Sprinkle the tops with salt.

3. Once the oven reaches 350 degrees, place the baguette slices in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

4. Allow the crostinis to rest until cool to the touch. Spread a thin layer of goat cheese over the top of each crostini, then top with walnuts and a drizzle of honey. Serve warm.

Enjoy!
