This October, we honor the strength of women surviving and thriving — from those finding safety through our housing programs, to sisters leading change in their communities and beyond. Every woman deserves a safe place to begin again. | | Opening Doors in Miami for Survivors of Domestic Violence | | |
This October, The LOHM proudly launched our new HUD Rapid Rehousing Program in Miami, marking a powerful step forward in our mission to end poverty and incarceration of women and girls. The program is designed to provide safe, stable housing for women and families rebuilding their lives after incarceration, domestic violence, or homelessness, ensuring that every woman has a place where healing and hope can take root.
For many survivors, finding safety means starting over completely — often without resources, community, or a stable foundation. Through our Miami expansion, we’re meeting that need head-on. The Rapid Rehousing program provides short-term rental assistance, case management, and wraparound support to help women secure permanent housing, employment, and stability.

Meet our Miami Housing Coordinator
At the heart of this work is Alina Feas, a Pathways 4 Equity alumna and now Miami Housing Coordinator, who brings her own lived experience and deep compassion to the role. Alina understands firsthand the challenges that women face when reentering society, and she’s using that knowledge to guide others toward independence and self-sufficiency.
| | | “This program is about more than housing,” says Alina. “It’s about creating a space where women can feel safe enough to dream again — to build lives that are full of purpose and peace. | | |
With support from HUD and community partners like Charlotte’s Web, The LOHM is transforming empty apartments into homes filled with dignity, comfort, and new beginnings. Each key handed over represents a step toward freedom — and a future where every woman can begin again with hope.

| | FROM THE SYSTEM TO THE STAGE: FOWI ALUM MARY V. SPEAKS AT YALE | | We’re so proud of our sister, Mary Valdinados, a Faces of Women Imprisoned (FOWI) alum whose journey shows what’s possible when women are given the tools, community, and support to rise. | |
FOWI Alum Mary Valdinados Speaks at Yale University
Recently, Mary took the stage at Yale University, speaking on juvenile justice reform and sharing her truth about life after incarceration — the trauma, the barriers, and the courage it takes to rebuild.
As Mary said powerfully, “I’m not here because of the system — I’m here in spite of it.”

She also shared her gratitude for The LOHM community that helped her grow and lead with purpose.
“Thank you for believing in me and helping me elevate to new heights. I still have much to learn and grow, but I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for the support of those around me. I appreciate you all more than words can express.”
Mary’s journey is a testament to the power of sisterhood, leadership, and transformation. Through FOWI, she continues to turn her lived experience into advocacy — rewriting her story and paving the way for others to do the same.
