Oklahoma City Advances Energy-Efficient Housing Initiative
The City of Oklahoma City is moving forward with an exciting new initiative focused on resilient energy-efficient housing. Through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program, Oklahoma City has launched the Resilient Home Prototype Plans Project.
The project will develop residential prototype plans for a variety of housing types, including accessory dwelling units, duplexes, and single-family homes. These plans will emphasize energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainable design practices while providing estimated construction and life-cycle operating costs. The goal is to create practical, ready-to-use plans that can be adapted by design and construction professionals throughout the region.
SPEER is proud to support this effort through the participation of Randy Plumlee, Senior Manager of Building Performance, who was appointed to serve on the project's selection committee. The committee will assist in evaluating consultant qualifications and helping guide the development of prototype plans that demonstrate how high-performance housing can be both achievable and practical for Oklahoma communities.
As Oklahoma continues to explore innovative approaches to housing affordability and durability, initiatives like this one reinforce the important role that energy efficiency plays in creating healthier, more resilient homes for the future.
