Fulton County joins communities around the country in celebrating Drinking Water Week, May 4 - 10. The annual observance led by the American Water Works Association serves to highlight the importance of safe drinking water and recognize the tireless efforts of water professionals.

Fulton County Public Works is hosting guided tours in honor of National Drinking Water Week on Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Tom Lowe Water Treatment Plant, 9750 Spruill Road Johns Creek, GA 30022.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will officially recognize May as Mental Health Awareness Month at its May 7, 2025 Board of Commissioners meeting, reaffirming its commitment to mental wellness and reducing stigma.

This year's national theme, “Turn Awareness into Action,” emphasizes the need for meaningful change in how mental health is supported and understood.


This May, the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is hosting fun and helpful events to bring the community together and promote healthy living!


Join us for "A Closer Look: Who We Are and How We Help” Community Workshop Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Adamsville Regional Health Center, 3700 MLK Jr. Dr. SW, Atlanta, GA.


Each week, we’ll share new workshops and info sessions where residents can learn helpful tips, find support, connect with others, and get more chances to explore mental health resources and build healthy habits.

OLDER AMERICAN'S MONTH IS UNDERWAY WITH

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will proclaim May as Older Americans Month (OAM) during its May 7, 2025, meeting, continuing its tradition of honoring the contributions of older adults.

This year's theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” encourages communities to rethink aging and challenge outdated stereotypes.


All month long, seniors can enjoy 35 in-person and virtual events that highlight their strength, creativity, and active lifestyles. From fun activities to helpful workshops, these events are all about staying connected, feeling valued, and living well.

LOOK FOR FULTON COUNTY AT ATLANTA STREETS ALIVE

ON SUNDAY, MAY 18

Atlanta Streets Alive is hosting its second event on Sunday, May 18 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., with Ralph David Abernathy Blvd closed from Gordon White Park to Grant Park!


The Atlanta Department of Transportation will close select streets to traffic, opening them up for people of all ages to enjoy outdoor activities, walk, bike, and engage in healthy, sustainable experiences.

FULTON COUNTY IS LOOKING FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF

YOUTH LEADERS

Fulton County is now accepting applications for the 2025–26 Fulton County Youth Commission (FCYC), a leadership program for high school students in grades 9th through 11th who live in and attend school (public, private, charter, or APS) within Fulton County.


To be considered, students must submit a completed application and a two-page essay by the deadline on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.

The FCYC is a leadership program for high school students in Fulton County whose primary purpose is to advocate for children and youth issues. FCYC encourages tomorrow’s leaders to get involved today. FCYC leaders receive ongoing opportunities to address the many issues presently facing youth.


Selected Youth Commissioners commit to volunteering 20 hours/month and 120 hours annually in meetings and community projects.

COMMISSIONER KHADIJAH ABDUR-RAHMAN

HOSTS ANNUAL SENIOR SUMMIT ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 28

Fulton County District 6 Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman invites seniors to the Annual Senior Summit 2025 on Wednesday, May 28 at the Georgia International Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration and breakfast begin at 9 a.m. The event will focus on health, wellness, safety, and civic engagement for seniors, featuring speakers like Probate Judge Kenya Johnson and representatives from AARP, Atlanta Legal Aid, and more.

The AARP Foundation will be on-site to assist those looking for work, and interested seniors are encouraged to bring updated resumes. Seating is limited, to RSVP, visit https://linktr.ee/SeniorSummit2025. Registration is open until Friday, May 23.


In addition to Summit registration, seniors can also sign up to participate in activities such as line dancing, bingo, sound bowls/yoga sessions, casino games, and the H.J.C. Bowden Barbershop Podcast, where a free barber will be available onsite.

Meet Lita


At just 9 months old, Lita is the perfect blend of sweetness, affection, and calm. This gentle girl loves being around people and greets everyone with a wagging tail and soft curiosity. She has done wonderfully with children and has peacefully shared her space with other dogs, even forming a heartwarming snuggle bond with a fellow foster pup.


On walks, Lita gets excited when she spots other dogs and is always eager to say hello and make new friends. Lita’s loving spirit makes her a true joy to have around.

CASA BRUNCH AND LEARN INSPIRES SUPPORT FOR FULTON FOSTER YOUTH

At a recent Brunch and Learn, CASA of Fulton County brought together attorneys, volunteers, and former foster youth to highlight the power of advocacy. The discussion centered on practical ways to support children in foster care, from courtrooms to classrooms to the community. CASA volunteers play a vital role by offering consistent mentorship and meaningful guidance to help shape brighter futures.

FULTON COUNTY SENIOR SERVICES EMPOWERS RESIDENTS WITH DEMENTIA CARE TRAINING

The Fulton County Department of Senior Services hosted a Dementia Friends Georgia session to help residents better support loved ones and neighbors living with dementia.

Participants learned practical tips and communication strategies to make daily interactions more supportive, whether at home, work, or in public. The program also invites attendees to become Dementia Champions, empowering them to lead future sessions and expand awareness across Fulton County.

The Fulton County F.O.C.U.S. Awards celebrate employees who demonstrate excellence, leadership, and service through peer nominations. Ten recipients were recognized for going above and beyond by solving critical issues, supporting their teams, and making a lasting impact on the community.

COMMISSIONER BRIDGET THORNE HOSTS NORTH FULTON TOWN HALL

Commissioner Bridget Thorne hosted a Town Hall for District 1 and North Fulton residents, sharing updates on school safety with guest Scott Hilton, new funding for a Behavioral Health Crisis Center, and upcoming priorities in economic development and elections. Attendees left informed and optimistic about local progress.

Fulton County Arts & Culture presents “The Sky Was Never the Limit,” a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Grace Kisa, at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Conference Center, 3900 Aviation Circle NW, Atlanta, GA 30336.


Inspired by Namoratunga, an ancient Kenyan observatory, Kisa’s work explores the cosmic connection between stardust and DNA, inviting viewers to reflect on our shared origins and interconnection across time and space.
