A Message from the County Executive

Dear Neighbors:

July was a month full of energy, celebration, and meaningful progress across Onondaga County. We continued building momentum with Micron’s ahead‑of‑schedule first concrete pour at White Pine Commerce Park, along with the opening of the Hopkins Park SuperField - a new asset sure to strengthen our sports tourism and hospitality industries.

It was also an incredible month for live entertainment in Onondaga County, with major acts taking the stage at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview. Five Finger Death Punch, Toto, Phish, The Guess Who, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Tim McGraw and others - what a lineup!

Our country celebrated a remarkable milestone this month: the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation. Communities across our county marked the occasion with parades, fireworks, and patriotic festivities, and it was wonderful to see so much red, white, and blue on display.

Since 1776, the ideals of liberty and equality have guided the United States. Each generation has worked to expand, test, and redefine these principles, supported by countless individuals who have sacrificed to uphold them. As we honor our past, acknowledge our challenges, and look toward the future, let’s remain committed to the spirited debate, mutual respect, and shared purpose that have always moved our nation forward.

County Executive McMahon Marches In

Village of Manlius Annual 4th of July Parade

The Town of Manlius Fourth of July is part of the village's long-standing Independence Day celebration, a tradition that has been held annually for decades. The event is deeply rooted in Manlius civic and community life. The parade began as a way for residents to come together to honor American independence, showcasing local talent, business, and community spirit. Over time, it evolved into a major summer event, complete with marching bands, floats, firetrucks, political representatives, and entertainment.

Celebrated in July, Disability Pride Month is an annual observance that honors the history, achievements and culture of people with disabilities while promoting awareness and acceptance.

The month coincides with the anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th, 1990. This landmark legislation played a significant role in protecting the rights of individuals with disabilities and ensuring their inclusion in society.

UV Safety Awareness Month is observed in July and raises awareness about the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation as well as promotes sun safety practices.

The month also serves as a reminder to take protective measures against UV exposure which can lead to skin cancer and other health issues.

Onondaga County Parks Celebrate

Parks & Recreation Month

National Parks and Recreation Month has been celebrated since 1985 and aims to inspire healthier communities through the promotion of parks and recreation. This year marks the 41st anniversary of this celebration and recognizes the vital role of parks and recreation professionals.

Onondaga County Parks celebrated Parks and Recreation Professionals Day on Friday July 17th, 2026. This day was dedicated to celebrating all the professionals who help build and maintain strong, vibrant and resilient communities.

Micron Milestone! First Concrete Poured!

County Executive McMahon was honored to join Micron Executives and other dignitaries to celebrate the pouring of the concrete foundation for it's first fabrication plant at White Pine Commerce Park. This milestone occurred months ahead of schedule and signifies the transition from site preparation to vertical construction.

County Executive McMahon, "Today's milestone is a proud and defining moment for Onondaga County, Central New York, and the country. Pouring the first concrete at Micron's historic New York campus is proof of what this community can achieve when we set ambitious goals, work together, and refuse to slow down. Reaching this milestone months ahead of schedule reflects the grit of the people of Central New York and the strength of the partnership we have built with Micron. This project to build leading-edge memory locally will reshape the trajectory of our region for generations, and today reminds us that when Onondaga County comes together with purpose, we don't just meet expectations------we exceed them."

County Executive McMahon brought some much needed sunshine to an overcast day at the CNY Regional Market, surprising attendees of Senior Nutrition Days with flowers and plenty of smiles!

This regular Onondaga County Department of Adult and Long Term Care Services event is a key part of the county's senior nutrition programs -- offering wholesome meals that help older older adults stay strong, independent, and active.

2026 NACo Conference and Exposition

The NACo Annual Conference is the premier gathering of elected and appointed officials from the nation’s 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs.

The conference included dozens of committee and caucus meetings, educational workshops, general sessions and more. Sessions offered learning and best practices on the full range of county responsibilities and domestic policy issues.

Founded in 1973, NACo emerged as a response to the growing need for a unified platform for county leaders to address common challenges, share resources, and advocate for their interests at higher levels of government. Over the decades, it has expanded its role to include policy research, training, and public engagement.

Mizpah Towers Ribbon Cutting

County Executive McMahon joined other elected officials and local dignitaries to celebrate the ribbon cutting of The Mizpah. After sitting mostly vacant for nearly three decades, one of downtown Syracuse's most iconic buildings has transformed into a wine bar and private event venue.

Originally opened in 1915, the Mizpah Towers building is known for its stained-glass windows, vaulted ceilings and historic architecture. After the church left the property in 1988, it briefly operated as a concert venue.

NYS Health Commissioner

County Executive McMahon and Onondaga County Health Department Commissioner Dr. Kathryn Anderson welcomed NYS Health Department Commissioner Dr. James McDonald to the county's Woman, Infants, and Children (WIC) office, where he could see firsthand the impact it is having in our local community.

WIC provides healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and more. Our Onondaga County team and office is perhaps the best in the state, consistency exceeding caseload targets, reaching more families and expanding access to nutrition and support.

Early access to healthy food and guidance gives children a stronger start, supports parents, and strengthens community health while reducing future healthcare costs, and Onondaga County remains committed to its investment in the WIC program

County Executive McMahon and Byrne Dairy CEO Carl Byrne met recently to discuss Byrne's plans for another plant expansion. The County Executive and CEO Byrne traded ideas and began shaping plans for the future.

Gun Violence Community Forum

County Executive McMahon, II took part in the Syracuse 360 Violence Intervention Community Forum & Symposium Violence Prevention Symposium. Hosted by The Gifford Foundation, the event brought leaders together to discuss how coordinated, community-based strategies can produce meaningful reductions in gun violence and to explore how those strategies can strengthen and expand the work already happening across Onondaga County.

County Executive J. Ryan McMahon, II was in the Village of Minoa for the official opening of the Goodwood Tavern. Congratulations to owners Steve Perry and Jennifer Wood.

Minoa Mayor Bill Brazill says, “Thanks to the leadership and partnership of Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and the County’s Main Street Initiative, Minoa and our local business owners have secured more than $1.7 million in investments to renovate properties, strengthen existing businesses, and attract exciting new ones like Goodwood Tavern.”
