A Message from the County Executive
Dear Neighbor,
July has flown by! I hope everyone is enjoying the warm weather and our wonderful county parks. I want to give a shoutout to our Parks Team for all their hard work especially since July was Parks & Recreation Recognition Month! The dedication each of you show to keeping our parks, camps and recreation sites enjoyable for our community is unmatched.
This month, I had the privilege of attending another successful SEMICON West Conference with our Economic Development Team as well as joining other members of the community at the Syracuse Mets First Responders Day to honor our fallen heroes, Officer Michael Jensen and Lieutenant Michael Hoosock.
Recently, we announced funding for Youth Summer Sports Programs through our Youth Bureau Division. We also announced the latest recipients of our Agritourism Grants.
My administration and County Team continue to dedicate themselves to making Onondaga County the best community to live, work and play and we look forward to sharing more announcements throughout the upcoming months.

Independence Day, more commonly referred to as the 4th of July, commemorates the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, establishing the United States of America. County Executive McMahon and other county team members attended the Manlius parade to celebrate. Happy 4th of July and God Bless America. | |
County Executive McMahon Honors Our Fallen Heroes at Syracuse Mets
First Responders Day

County Executive McMahon was honored to join other members of the community to celebrate First Responders Day with the Syracuse Mets. A special tribute was made to Officer Michael Jensen and Lieutenant Michael Hoosock who were killed in the line of duty. Thank you to all our first responders who put their lives on the line every day to ensure our safety.

County Executive McMahon Joins Senator Schumer to Celebrate "NY-SMART I-90 Corridor Hub" Funding |
County Executive McMahon joined Senator Chuck Schumer and other local leaders from Buffalo and Rochester to celebrate the "NY-SMART I-90 Corridor Tech Hub" being selected as one of the first winners of the highly competitive Tech Hubs. The program will bring tens of millions of dollars in federal funding to further position Upstate New York as the semiconductor center of the world.
County Executive McMahon said, "To meet the growing labor demand of the companies here today, and those that will soon call our community home, we will need partners at all levels of government to come together. Today, thanks to the relentless advocacy of Senator Schumer, the New York Smart I-Corridor Tech Hub will have access to tens of millions of dollars to ramp up our workforce efforts for the jobs of today and tomorrow."

Attend SEMICON West
|
County Executive McMahon and the OCIDA team attended this year's SEMICON West. SEMICON West is the flagship annual event for the global microelectronics industry. It is the premier event for the display of new products and technologies for microelectronics design and manufacturing, featuring technologies from across the microelectronics supply chain, from electronic design automation to device fabrication (wafer processing), to final manufacturing (assembly, packaging, and test).
Our team worked diligently to foster and maintain new and existing supplier relationships. At our supplier reception, over 30 supply chain companies showed interest in co-investing with Micron Technolgy in Onondaga County.

County Executive McMahon Joins Congressman Williams to Announce Defense Appropriations Allocation Funding |
County Executive McMahon joined Congressman Williams and other local elected officials to help announce defense appropriations allocation of $4.5 million to SRC defense to improve tactical data analysis capabilities in support of cognitive electronic warfare.
SRC Inc., formerly Syracuse Research Corporation, is an independent, not-for-profit research and development company in defense, environment, and intelligence industries. SRC Inc. headquarters is in North Syracuse.

County Executive McMahon Announces Agritourism Grant Recipients | County Executive McMahon announced the third round of recipients for the Onondaga County Agritourism Grant Program. As one of the five components of the County Comprehensive Plan (Plan Onondaga), supporting and making strategic investments in our agricultural community is a vital part to the future success of our county. The vast range of agritourism destinations within our community contribute to making Onondaga Conty such a great place to call home. Congratulations to all our recipients! | |
County Executive McMahon Joins Local Leaders to Announce $50 Million Award for the East Adams Neighborhood Transformation Plan |
County Executive McMahon joined Mayor Ben Walsh and Syracuse Housing Authority Executive Director William Simmons to help announce an award of $50 million for the East Adams Neighborhood Transformation Plan. This grant will help create and revitalize a diverse range of housing options for current and future residents.
| County Executive McMahon Announces Youth Summer Sports Funding |
County Executive McMahon announced the Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Youth Bureau Division was awarded funds from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) for Youth Summer Team Sports Programs.
Onondaga County’s Youth Bureau Division received over $200,000 through the Teams Sports Fund to enhance youth sports for children and youth ages 6 to 17 years old in under-resourced communities. Youth participation in team sports improve problem-solving, teamwork and dispute resolution skills as well as has a positive impact on their development.
County Executive McMahon said, “Investing in our youth is one of the most important things we can do in County government.” McMahon continued, “Sports teach our youth about teamwork, discipline and healthy lifestyles which will help them grow and develop into successful young adults."

Onondaga County Veterans Service Agency Director Anne-Marie Mancilla, Assistant Director Cindy Meili and Veteran Service Officer Sharon Alleyne were honored to join U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand as she announced new bipartisan legislation critical to service members, veterans and their family's quality of life during and after service.
The Blast Overpressure Act will order the military to begin recording troops' individual blast exposures in training and regularly give exposed troops neurocognitive tests to check for signs of possible injuries. This legislation will help improve critical research, accurate diagnosis and lifesaving treatment for those heroes who serve and defend our nation.

The Onondaga County Veterans Service Agency spent an afternoon at the VetCenter picnic to connect with veterans, their families and other community partners.
Communication, connection and collaboration are the keys to ensuring Onondaga County is the best place for veterans and military families.

Onondaga County Parks and Recreation Recognized for
National Parks and Recreation Month

County Executive McMahon stopped by Jamesville Beach Park to present a special proclamation recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month in Onondaga County.
This year's theme is "Where You Belong" which celebrates the many ways parks and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in their community by providing welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe accessible spaces to build meaningful connections. This month is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating staff and volunteers who maintain our community's many beautiful parks and recreation sites. Thank you to our Onondaga Parks team for all you do!

Make your occasion more memorable when you hold it at Skyline Lodge at Highland Forest; Arrowhead Lodge at Oneida Shores (available year round) or Camp Brockway at Pratt's Falls Park (available mid May - mid October). Arrowhead Lodge, Skyline Lodge & Camp Brockway may be reserved up to 2 years in advance.
Twenty outdoor shelters & tents located in picturesque parks throughout the county are available Mid-May through Mid-October. All shelters can be reserved beginning January 1 for the upcoming season.
