September 2019
NOTE FROM PASTOR JOHN
Wow, the summer has gone by quickly and September is here! Join us this fall as we go through the Bible this year at Community of Hope! I’m really looking forward to exploring the key themes of scripture with you. We began Sunday, September 1 with an introduction, and we will continue on September 8 with week one of “ The Story .” Please come and experience God’s Word in this powerful way. Everyone will be studying the same passages each week in worship, Community Groups and also in our children and youth ministry. We will be starting in Genesis in September and ending with Revelation in May.
God’s Word is eternal, life-giving and relevant for all seasons and all times. In the book of Isaiah the prophet writes,  ”The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8) I was reminded of this at our recent mission trip to Mexico. As we visited the Rancho de Cristo, which is the men’s rehabilitation center, Hans Benning, the director told us that the only “resource” they use to treat addiction is the Bible. God’s Word addresses all issues of life that we will ever face.
Will you take God at His Word today? Will you listen to His voice? May this year be a year of renewal and new life as you center your life on His Word. Trust in Jesus the Living Word and remember…“ Life without Jesus is a hopeless end. Life with Jesus is endless hope ” (Greg Laurie, Harvest Crusade).

Together with you, Serving our Lord,
Pastor John Foss

Fall Update on Worship

This fall, we are doing a “new thing” with worship times. Beginning September 8, we will have worship at 9:00 am (blended worship with songs, hymns, prayers) and at 10:30 am (new format with recent and current worship songs, and an emphasis on adding youth/young adult musicians). Mike Haines will continue to lead both worship services. We have decided to especially focus on the 10:30 am worship hour as one of outreach and evangelism, creating a worship experience that will focus on welcoming families, children and youth in our ever-growing community. There will be children’s and middle school Sunday School offered during the 10:30 am worship service (everyone begins worship together). Childcare is available at both services. High school Sunday Bible class will happen between worship from 10-10:30 am. Adult Bible class will be offered at 9:00 am. There are opportunities to worship, serve, study the Bible and have fellowship together on Sunday morning! Thank you for your prayers, service and participation with God’s family at Hope!
NOTE FROM COUNCIL: STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Staff Spotlight: Dana
How long have you been at Community of Hope: Our family started worshipping at CoH in 1993, while we were still at Boeckman Creek Primary School.

What do you do at the church? In April 2013 I was asked to manage church operations at CoH, which also included bookkeeping, communications and volunteer coordination. Fall 2014, when Cindy Storey retired, I also began leading our Children’s Ministry.

What do you like about working at CoH?  I love that God’s Spirit is alive at CoH! There is so much genuine love for each other and serving others and it fills me with joy to see how Jesus is using us to minister to each other, to our community, and out into the world. It is the closest thing to the Book of Acts that I have experienced in the church’s I have attended throughout my life.
Community of Hope's greatest assets are its members and regular attenders, its many volunteers, and its church staff. We accomplish so many great things for Jesus through the efforts of all of us working together. We would like to show our appreciation for everybody that contributes to who we are and what we do in the name of Jesus. We decided to start this process by highlighting our dedicated Community of Hope employees.

Brenda Melum - Vice President
Chuck Benson - Treasurer
Sara Bennett - Secretary
Bj Shrock - Worship Team
Jim Clutts - Adult Ministry Team
Steve Boone - Property Team
Julien Chambers - Fellowship Team

UPCOMING COUNCIL POSITIONS OPEN FOR NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS AT THE JANUARY 2020 ANNUAL MEETING
According to our Constitution for Community of Hope, this coming year we need the following Council positions to be filled by nomination of new volunteers and then election of the volunteers at the January 2020 Annual Congregational Meeting :

Treasurer - Member of the Executive Team (presently Charles Benson)
Outreach - Council Team Leader (Presently Chris Utterback)
Fellowship - Council Team Leader (Presently Julian Chambers)

Please prayerfully consider to which position God might be calling you to use your talents, time, and experience. If God calls you, He will enable you with wisdom and grace to to fulfill the responsibilities of that position. Previous members of Council can serve again after a year gap from any previous position.

Please notify Henry or Brenda if you are willing to stand for election in January and then serve for one of these crucial positions which will be vacant. Please talk to the person presently serving if you need more information about what the position's actual responsibilities entail.

In Christ,
