Volume 4 | August 2022

Our Neighbors' News

July was a terrific month, albeit a short month, as the team took a week off to enjoy some family time and R&R. The month started off with the Christian Motorcyclist Association, Resurrection Riders graciously volunteering to work the "pay what you can" One Bistro booth at Xenia Rotary’s Kevin Sonnycalb Memorial Fireworks. Thank you, Resurrection Riders!!

Message from Shayne Shaffer, Front House Coordinator | One Bistro

I read a devotional recently that has stuck with me and I am compelled to share it with you. Mainly because I know so many of us are on the fence about service and not sure of where we are supposed to be sharing our time and talents with others. My advice is to (forgive me for quoting the Nike ads) just do it. Try a few things. See where your heart thrills and God speaks to your soul. Sometimes we just need to get out of our comfortable life and see what God can do through us...

"If you’re waiting on God — do what waiters do: serve.

Break free of your comfort zone and do something, touch someone, give something, help someone, pray for someone, serve someone, #betheGIFT for someone. You can't be a world changer until you *serve. * In serving, you are served a feast of what you’re longing for. Because the One who loves you steadfastly, stood fast at the cross for you, so now stand fast for Him.

Each of you should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms... Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God’s words; if help, let it be God’s hearty help." 1Peter4:10 NIV, MSG. "

Of course, I will invite you to serve with us here at One Bistro. We have many opportunities to serve here. All are welcome.

We were excited to welcome these volunteers from

Greene County Department of Development.

We also welcomed this terrific youth group from  Patterson Park Church.

We captured this next piece from the Facebook Page of Dessine Fricioniwe hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

"Julia had lunch “with the girls” today. Mommy, Meemaw and Yiayia Manoula. She was waaay more interested in chatting with other diners. Doesn’t she look Shy? Not. // For those of you who may find yourself in Xenia, we went to One Bistro on E. Main Street near the post office. A fascinating concept; faith based, non-profit, pay if you can or give time in service. Donations welcome to provide meals for the needy. Community meals served every Wednesday. Volunteer staff. In Greene county 24,350 people struggle with good insecurity. I will return, plus the food happens to be homemade and great."

“5 Stars! I love this place. Everything is delicious. I have tried almost every menu item and I am always happy. I love that you can pay it forward for those less fortunate than yourself. The volunteers (servers) are really kind. Parking can be annoying, but it's soooo worth it. Love the Blue Plate." Gabrielle W.“

While we encourage volunteers to sign up online in advance, anyone may stop in during café hours to see if help is needed. Groups are also welcome to serve together. Email us and we’ll find the perfect opportunity for your group!

Thank you to our July

Community Meal VOLUNTEER groups.

You make our evening so very special.

“Amazing food, great prices and great service. My Club Sandwich was HUGE!! I love that they will accept no payment if you can't afford, or let you work it off. Neat concept."  Justin S.

We have terrific Table Sponsors who are faithful supporters of our mission to provide a place where our neighbors eat and come together as one community.

Thank you, Barbara Mills, Dr. Jeff Lewis, Denise Davis and Diane Dixon, Kyle and Mallory Thompson, Mark and Marilyn Dues, CBD Strategic, LLC, Patterson Park Church, The John & Betty Meyer Foundation, The Phil & Pam Black Foundation, Washington Heights Baptist Church, Stevenson Heating Cooling & Plumbing

If you are wondering about our beautiful flowers, an anonymous donor graciously provided funding them and they are grown and arranged by Betsy Harner! Thank you to our donor & Betsy!

National Everybody Eats Week is right around the corner and as we look back over July, we want to say a big hearty thank you to all of you who have stepped up to help us prepare for what is sure to be a terrific week bringing awareness to the importance of food security for all. On August 15, we will send out a special newsletter edition focused solely on National Everybody Eats Week.  Don’t miss it and plan to join us the week of August 21 – 27.
