One Bistro's 8th Birthday!

Eight years ago on April 13, One Bistro Xenia opened its brick and mortar café to the community, providing a new way to dine and a new way to give back. The journey has been nothing short of amazing, just like our God to whom this mission belongs! We take this opportunity to say 'THANK YOU' to all who have impacted and been a part of this tremendous biznisty. We had a lot of fun celebrating!

Michael & Susan Anderson from Kalamazoo, MI were traveling through and found One Bistro by chance. They loved the mission and their special birthday treat!

Toye & Chad's Story

Meet Chad and Toye, volunteers you will see in the bistro on Saturdays. They love the mission, the people, and most of all, they love serving together and the bistro gives them the perfect opportunity to do so.

"In 2019, I started volunteering at One Bistro as a means to look beyond myself to the needs of others", said Chad. "I was going through a divorce and was experiencing a lot of grief and pain. I discovered that One Bistro was instrumental in my personal recovery."

Chad was drawn to our Pay-It-Forward model and knowing those who are food insecure have an opportunity to eat the same food he enjoys at One Bistro. Toye was introduced to One Bistro when she and Chad were dating; he brought her for breakfast one Saturday. They married in 2023 and began volunteering together.

You will often find Chad in the dish room busting the suds and doing a fantastic job. Toye can be found out front serving the customers and helping other volunteers as they learn the various roles and serve others. Toye summed it up this way, “To place a smile in the heart and face of someone who may otherwise be having a hard time, fills my heart. Knowing I can pay forward the help that was once a necessary part of my life, makes the circle complete.

"For my wife and I, One Bistro has become a 'shared ministry' - one we both enjoy immensely. Seeing my wife serve has given me greater insight into her heart and increases my love and appreciation for her. I cannot think of a better way for a family to participate together in ministry than One Bistro."

In Case You Missed it on Facebook

In 2020, during the Covid lockdown, Carmina and Roman started looking for a special way to celebrate their birthdays since they couldn't go out to eat. That's when they discovered One Bistro!

"One Bistro does not discriminate and welcomes people from all walks of life," Carmina says. "Once I saw a less fortunate guy come in and after he finished his shift, a server came to him to take his order. He was treated with respect; his meal was the same just like what customers would get. I experienced One Bistro’s mission in action - all neighbors are welcome at our table."

Now, each April Carmina sponsors a Community Meal in honor of her birthday and Roman pays it forward as many meals as his age. What a fantastic way to celebrate! Happy Birthday, Carmina & Roman...and many more!!

Love this concept of giving back! Great service and a yummy breakfast all for the greater good!!! ~ Nancy Poteet
