Meet Chad and Toye, volunteers you will see in the bistro on Saturdays. They love the mission, the people, and most of all, they love serving together and the bistro gives them the perfect opportunity to do so.
"In 2019, I started volunteering at One Bistro as a means to look beyond myself to the needs of others", said Chad. "I was going through a divorce and was experiencing a lot of grief and pain. I discovered that One Bistro was instrumental in my personal recovery."
Chad was drawn to our Pay-It-Forward model and knowing those who are food insecure have an opportunity to eat the same food he enjoys at One Bistro. Toye was introduced to One Bistro when she and Chad were dating; he brought her for breakfast one Saturday. They married in 2023 and began volunteering together.
You will often find Chad in the dish room busting the suds and doing a fantastic job. Toye can be found out front serving the customers and helping other volunteers as they learn the various roles and serve others. Toye summed it up this way, “To place a smile in the heart and face of someone who may otherwise be having a hard time, fills my heart. Knowing I can pay forward the help that was once a necessary part of my life, makes the circle complete.
"For my wife and I, One Bistro has become a 'shared ministry' - one we both enjoy immensely. Seeing my wife serve has given me greater insight into her heart and increases my love and appreciation for her. I cannot think of a better way for a family to participate together in ministry than One Bistro."
