Memorial Day weekend feels like the first bookend to summertime, and we tend to position ourselves for a celebration. However Memorial Day is not meant to be a celebration. The fast approaching weekend is a time of reverence. A time for us to honor the fallen and those who gave the greatest sacrifice so that we may know personal freedom.
We celebrate those personal freedoms with what we say, with what we write and with what we do. But let us never forget, not today and especially not on May 26th, who and how that freedom came to be. If you lost a loved one that served, our hearts are with you this Memorial Day. We honor the men and women who fought and served so bravely for this beautiful 'home of the free' country.
On Monday, May 26th the Elkhorn VFW Memorial Post 6375 will host a parade and memorial service for the entire community to attend. The Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:30am at Jackson Elementary and route up Walworth Street to Veteran's Park where guests will gather at the Veteran's Memorial. We hope to see you there in an effort to honor those who paid the price for our greatest gift: freedom.
