1. WELCOME TO OUR NEW
PAWS IN PRISON FRIENDS
There were two animal events in October: October 22 at Petfest in San Marcos and October 29 at Puptoptia in Austin. We had a total of 37 new folks sign up to receive our newsletters. WELCOME to those of you receiving this newsletter for the first time! Events such as these give us the opportunity to spread the word about our amazing and unique nonprofit. We're so happy you stopped by our booth and hope you will tell others about us.
Both of these events featured many activities and introduced visitors to nonprofits and vendors. To learn about animal-related events in the Central Texas area, check the drop down menu on the events option of our website main menu. And if you are in San Antonio the weekend after Thanksgiving, you won't want to miss Animalis Fabula animal film festival!
Please tell others how Paws in Prison is
saving more than dogs!

3. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
It takes a lot of work to make this small but powerful organization run well. If you are getting our newsletters then we know you have a heart for the Paws in Prison mission. Everything you do to help us has a ripple effect on the inmates, the communities they return to, the shelter dogs saved, and the people who adopt our basic obedience, crate and house trained dogs.
We need all kinds of skills from time-to-time. Do you have social media talent? Are you a good writer or editor? Do you love talking to others about us at in-person events? Would you like to help us with adoption duties? How about fundraising, especially during Amplify Austin March 1-2, 2023? Fostering? And if you have good organizational skills, we also need a Volunteer Coordinator! Fill out our Volunteer Application to get on our list of volunteer super heros! The rewards of helping this amazing nonprofit will fill your heart.

Meet Anna Kate. Anna Kate and her family adopted Gizmo (now known as Nash) from Paws In Prison back in January. In fact, he was the very first dog adoption of this year.
Gizmo was not the easiest dog to place as he had a bit of a nipping habit, but he was so darn cute, Anna Kate just had to have him. …There was something special about him.
Then in August, Nash’s girl was diagnosed with cancer. Spending every other week in bed as Anna Kate recovers from chemotherapy, Nash stays snuggled up next to her. He was so missed while she was in the hospital that a friend got Anna Kate a stuffed animal that looked exactly like him! Anna Kate’s mom said, “Nash has been an amazing dog supporting Anna Kate...we are so happy we adopted him." The family says Anna Kate’s prognosis is good but it will be a bumpy ride. No doubt Nash will be right by her side… There is something special about him.

5. THEY ARE READY FOR THEIR
FUREVER HOMES!
These pups are trained in basic obedience commands and ready to find their "furever" homes! If you can find a place in your heart and home for one of these special dogs, or know someone else who needs a "furever" friend, we can help find a good match. Every adopted dog in the Paws in Prison program opens up a spot for us to rescue another dog from a Central Texas kill shelter and provides training opportunities for the inmates participating in the Paws in Prison program.
You can read about them on the Our Dogs page of the website.
FOR ANY OF THESE PRECIOUS PUPS!
Yep, it's hard to believe, but 2022 is almost over. Nonprofit organizations have been especially hurt financially, first by Covid in 2020/2021 and now with escalating prices in almost every area. For us it is mostly felt in the price of dog food, dog training supplies and the increasing cost of vet care and pet products. We are committed to the health and well being of our dogs before we release them for adoption.
Please remember us when you consider
your end of year giving! No matter the size
monthly donations help us know what to expect.
To donate by credit card, go to our DONATE page.

Paws in Prison educates female inmates for greater responsibility and empathy through the rescue and training of shelter dogs to be adopted by the public. The women who participate in the Paws in Prison program are given an opportunity to earn certifications that could benefit them for job opportunities after prison release.
